Ok so my friend just started playing a lizardmen army and he uses two ancient stegadons both with a skink priest and engines of the gods. He also uses a lvl 4 slaan mage that is ridiculous beyond belief. I play a mostly all cavalry list with two units of hard hitting knights. Can anyone give me some tips on how to beat him becuase so far I havent even come close.
with engines of the gods the best thing is to charge it straight on! then challange it. in the challange you will fight a no armour save T3 Skink priest and the Steg. but with the choas arsenal of powerful lords that should not be a problem Kill the priest and he has no Engine of the gods anymore. I know this is going to be annoying but it's the only thing I can think of that will work. you could do this with some Marauder Horsemen with flails they are expendable and if the priest is dead you are fine.
the Slaan however is a whole other problem I suggest taking a Scroll caddy and maybe find some nice anti Magic items (tzeentchian Items are useally ace.
when his engines are dead just slamm those knight in his Slaan unit an Murder it. With those annoying Knight you should get it done. And don't run Mark of Khorn or he will move you around with his skinks all game. take MoN instead to make his shooting go numb or take MoS to make sure you can do what you want without worring about the terror effects of the stegs.
with all those High Price Units his army is going to be small so make sure you outmanouver him and stay on your toes. Make sure you just stay out range of 1 of the engines so your units don't get doube blasted
Hope this helps and let us know how you do.

yup, challenges to his skinks are awesome, as is nurgle spell #1
Chaos Warriors (2009) 16-4-9
You could also try a Hellcannon or two - it should munch them up in shooting and close combat.
Now the Slaan, he will have trouble against anything that has a Magic Res, and if he's using the Lore of Metal, a Daemon Prince helps even more. It really depends how he's running it, as to how you counter it. What powers and magic items has he got? Is he with Temple Guard?
He uses a slaan mage in a unit of temple guard with FC and two disiplines I forgot which ones and he uses a magic item called bane something I dont really know.
It sounds like the Slaan is a pretty basic setup - the Bane Head will let him choose a character at the start of the battle, and the Slaan will deal double wounds to him. If he's only running 2 disciplines, the ones that grant all spells in one lore, and +1 free power dice per attempt are both pretty standard, so he'll probably ave those.
Now this unit is his is Stubborn, so to break it, you need to out number it with a fear causer - 6-7 knights come to mind. Even if he takes a banner granting immunity to Fear, Knights can still grind this unit down. You could also tie it up with a Giant or something, and screw with the Slaan's line of sight. I'd be looking at killing the Engines first, then this unit.
Ok so tonite I lost again. I really have no clue on how to play my army against this monstrosity. Here are the two lists we both played:
Axe of Khorne
Crown of Everlasting Conquest
Favour of the Gods
3 Units of 5 Marauder Horsemen
2 Units of 10 Warhounds
5 Chaos Knights
5 Chaos Knights
5 Chaos Knights
Extra Hand Weapons
Here is his list its not exact but its from what i remember
the free one and the one thats gets him an extra power dice
plaque of topek
6 Cold One Cavalry
20 Saurus Warriors
18 Temple Guard
*slaan goes in this unit
10 Skinks Skirmishers
10 Skinks Skirmishers
10 Skink Skimishers
5 Chamillion Skinks

any help you guys can give me would be great. I have no clue as to what my strategey should be.
Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
Ogres with extra hand weapons are pretty poor. Use them with great weapons to mash his stegdons. Also, ditch the marauder horsmen, because unupgraded, they are a waste of points. Split the warhounds into two, and use the 195 points for your marauder horsemen to beef up your knights or get a chariot.
A Cav list will struggle here everytime. The Engines can attack them and negate their save, and such a large amount of magic doesn't have many models to kill.
Jared, even though a little unreliable, a Hellcannon still gets a 12 inch charge, and no mater what it does, it tends to kill stuff. These lizards will have a hard time against such a high toughness model.
The last things I'll suggest is getting the Collar of Khorne on your general, just for the magic res, and he's going to be bane head-ed, and targeted by Lore of Metal, so everything helps. Then, target your General and the Knights straight at the Stegs. They can't run away anymore, being ItP. Might work...
