I'm currently working my way into Warhammer Fantasy and have decided to play WoC (Big surprise I'm sure). I have a couple things I'm working on and would appreciate any advice and tips some of the vets could offer me.
I currently have (unassembled):
- A Chaos Khorne Lord/Hero Dude
- 24 Chaos Warriors
- 20 Chaos Marauders
- 10 Chaos Warhounds
- 10 Chaos Knights
While I understand the rules of the board and am not asking for specifics, about how many points would all these models enable me to bring to the table? My plans for further expansion call for a lot more chaos warriors.
Next up, I am collecting a number of special models for the army (Harry the Hammer, the GD 09 Mini, the Avatars of War Chaos Lord, etc.) How many different lord/hero models does the standard need call for? I don't want to keep getting these models if I'm not going to end up using them.
Also, I'm interested in using some of the 40k chaos sorcerers in place of the fantasy ones (AKA: Ahriman). Assuming I clip off the techno-bitz, is that cool?
Finally, are there any tips in general or anything that I have overlooked, please let me know. Thanks a ton.
Heya dude, Bit vague but i'll try my best!
The warriors, if you do two units of 12 you're looking about 200 - 250pts for each unit if you give them command and equipment.
The marauders you're looking at about 100pts give or take.
Split the knights into two units and that'll rack up to about 500pts
Plus the dogs you're looking about 1200pts in total.
For games of 2000pts or above you're going to need at least 3 Core choices. which luckily you have If you split the warriors into two units. As for hero's at 2000pts you can have 4 characters in total. ONE of those characters may be a lord if you so desire. Exalted Champions and sorcerers you're looking at between 150-200pts and a Lord is Double that.
As for conversions as long as they're on the right sized Square bases and it Looks like it should do i don't think anyone would complain. I wouldn't anyway.
As for tactics and magic item combinations I honestly advise taking a look at the army list section and the Tactica as they'll be no end of help for you.

If you end up with too many hero models, just use them as unit champions.

Welcome to the forums. I'm a new player as well, and have an army almost identical as yours. I added a sorcerer to my list which I'm assuming helps. I posted a similar topic earlier this week where the guys gave me some good advice. Good luck and welcome.
Without the help of a calculator, the army you have right now can go to 1500pts easy. Just need to pick your equipments and banners carefully and you're there at 1500pts. Might want to grab another Sorcerer to keep the Magic Phase alive (either by casting or dispelling).
Plate armies (lots of Warriors) can work but generally I've seen them work under heavy magic armies. That said, I don't see why not try them for yourselves. I'm not a fan of slow-moving infantry units but some guys here could help. Just try asking specifics other time around.
Conversions, like Borak said, as long as the base sizes are correct and it looks fitting with the fluff/story, I'd say why not, cool even. I know some guys over the internet who use the W40K Terminator Lord as a WHFB Chaos Lord and Sorcerer Lord on disk. They look awesome!
If you end up buying too much models, you can always ship one or two to me.
Currently building my poor-hammer WoC army.
Thank you so much for your help. This is a great forum and I very much appreciate the advice. It sounds like I have between 1250 and 1500 points, which is about where I was hoping to be. I'll pick up the Ahriman model and add him in as a sorcerer, which should get me to around 1500 without having to buy profuse amounts of wargear. That way I can play some games and see what I need to do to keep building the force according to my playstyle.
