thanks for any help guys
Hey Dude, This might be better off in the Army list section but hey.
Do you want an armoured footslogger army or an Armoured fast army?
Footslogger army, You're looking at 2 or 3 small units of 10-12 warriors with some support, Chariots are brilliant at 1000pts as there's not much really that can threaten them. They're great for protecting the flanks of your units aswell, So are spawn, they're great little fellows and will stop an enemy unit dead in it's tracks.
With all footslogger armies you need some fast stuff in there to harass the enemy in turns 2 and 3 before your warriors hit them. Hounds are Brilliant for blocking lines of sight and bulking out your army with numbers.
At such small points and with such expensive core choices you're probably not going to be able to fit more than one character in there, If you do you're going to be lacking in numbers. Not that that wont work i've got a plate and magic heavy army that works and it's disgusting.
If you want i've got my Plate list in my Blog
It's 1500pts but it will give you an idea i hope.

A pair of khorne knights on the flank a regular exalted with shield and great weapon and then fill the rest with units of 10 warriors. That should do. There are many types of lists you could do with full plate. The one I showed you has no magic protection but 2 dd should do ok in 1k. You could do a magic heavy or all foot-slogger its up to you.
Daemonic cheese-how? Well, you would need to start with daemonic milk, i guess...
at 1000 point army a shaggoth may seem expensive but, THEY ARE AWESOME!!!
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
Thats just dirty....
Mind you, in a competitive setting, I think I would. Bastardry AWAY!
Anyway, into the main question. Yeah, warriors and chariots sound about right. Trying to fit Knights into 1000, while doable, does not seem to pay off (unless I am just useless at using Knights in small games), you lose too much in the way of numbers - and they are at a premium anyway in all-plate armies.

Shaggoth's aren't very good for their point cost, you can easily get a unit of Dragon ogres for less points, and they can serve many more purposes. But, this is all irelevant, as DO's and DO Shaggoths aren't heavily armoured.
I'd suggest warriors, knights, Warhounds (for screens) and magic. If you do use magic, I'd take 2 lvl one Nurgle Sorc's for Buboes; the spell is brilliant. Give one a dispel scroll or two and you're good for magic defence at 1k.

Trust in your core choices - love them, hate them, wish them dead to clear charges, but remember that come end they will pull off a miracle for you.
