Ok so our marauders are super tough dudes coming from the northlands where it is blistering cold and they live very close to the chaos winds ect.
These guys are hardened beasts with skin of leather and they all look like they could be in the worlds strongest man competition. Yet other than WS they have the same stat line as those wimpy empire foot soldiers who live in their castles and easy lifestyle (compared to these guys).
My question is shouldnt our marauders be slightly better? With how hard and battle heavy their life is you think theyd have somewhere in there stat line decntly impressive. Str 4 or T4 or since they are strong the ability to wear heavy armor. They do get marks though which are nice.
So what you guys think?
Now I know with our expensive units its nice to have a cheapo unit for blocks/combat res ect but Im asking more from a fluff point of view. I just cant imagine our buff savages being as strong as those skinny empire dudes.
I just want to know why they haven't frozen to death since all of them love running around with no clothes on.
They're are the lowest in a 3 tier system really. Chosen are the best, warriors are your average and marauders are the dummies you send into battle to tire your opponent out.

~I completely agree with you, but unfortunately Games Workshop's excuse is that Str 3 and T 3 cover a wide variety of people, from men at arms to our battle hardened warriors from the north... Avas, we shall be a cheap marauder T3 group of Norsemen.
Hey and just one more quick question since you reminded me of it.
Where are knights on the ladder? Just above chosen or on same tier as them?
You have a guy with average stats and above average WS and I for 4 points a model. Most armies would kill for troops like that. They're a great way to get men on the board and a perfect compliment to the warriors and knights.
To me, GW'S excuse makes sense. They're battle hardened, hence the WS4. They are still "normal" humans otherwise. We can't have troops that are better at every aspects of the statline!
"How do you stop a Chaos Knight from charging? No seriously, HELP!" André le Bouffon, jester of the Bretonnian court - last words.
Generally speaking marauders are a great way to provide some static combat resolution to a good fighty character. If I take them then it is usually as a bodyguard for my Exalted Champion of Nurgle on foot with a greatweapon and helm of many eyes.
This way they gain some protection from the exalted champion as he thins out the enemy front rank, thus minimising enemy incoming attacks should they get charged, which allows more of them to strike back.
Basically life sucks, there is only war and you're probably gonna get eaten by Tyranids, have fun.
Ya I understand their uses and how valuable they are as a core unit that can be combat res or a body guard. I just read their descripion and fluff and thouht they sounded like badasses that were stronger and better than normal men. The WS increase could be the diffence though and the Marks do make them better than other human footsoldiers. I dont know I just got the impression from the fluff and models that they couldnt be the same strength as peasant Men @ Arms.
Making them more elite would hurt us though with the way our army is so elite though. I dont know it was just a thought I had
