So I'm assembling my new Chaos Marauders and I'm wondering how you guys assemble them. I already know what equipment I want, hand weapons and shields for the improved armor save, but I'm looking at all these random bits and wondering if i want to use them at all.
Do you guys use the capes? Do the capes make ranking up difficult? Any tips about bits? What about the shoulder pauldrons? I like the idea of leaving the shoulders exposed to show off more muscle.
I tried the capes on a few of them but it makes them much harder to rank up and I don't like the look of them, the only ones with capes in my units ended up being my unit champions who also now hold ensorcelled weapons from the knights box, 100% badass

If you put a musician in then yes there should be 1 extra per box, one unit of my knights have lances though (doh >.<) and thats how I have so many extras now =P
Also, lances make wicked awesome halberds for warrior units!

When I posted that last question, I realized just how stupid it was. It's not like I couldn't peel off the plastic wrapper of my knights and have a look.
Yeah, I may do that with the halberds. Thanks for the tip. After seeing you guys discuss halberds vs. hand weapons on here, I'm going to equip my warriors with halberds and shields but wasn't sure how to deal with the halberd issue.
I've got 8 more marauder heads to clean of mold lines and then the arms. I think I'll attach the shields after painting the rest of the model, try to not make life too hard on myself.
Thanks again and if anyone else has more tips for putting these guys together, it's much appreciated.
I used to be a 40k only player, but ever since i started fantasy ( 3 months ago that is) thi ranking up has been bothering me, some things just don't fit!. like the chaos knights....how in the name of hell can anyway rank those in 2 ranks? ( not like anyone will cause 2 ranks of knights is just a waste but still.) i mean...half of those models is basically not even on the base but infront of it...
and i believe the knights have 6 enscrolled weapons in the set ( don't have the box here though) wasn't it 2 axes, 2 maces, and 2 swords? been assembling knights myself yesterday, love the box, love the models, love the options....hate the moldlines.
i'm going to use the lances aswell to make halberts for my warriors...it's took me untill i saw the knight box to realise that there are models with halberts this way shown in the armybook...
anyway, sorry for jacking the thread, i'm thinking of buying a unit of marauders myself...but i don't like the modes...so i would probably rather combines a set of marauder horsemen with some Bret man at arms...
good luck with those models mate
I tried to combine Marauder horsemen with Empire flaggies. The scale is way off, horsemen are HUGE in comparison. Only a couple of helmeted heads work.
Sorry for the OT, i just had to say something before he spent allot of money, and found out the hard way.
Back on topic:
I've got 2 boxes of Knights just laying around, I'm sure I can miss 1 or 2 or some more weapons, just let me know if you need more enscorcled weapons. (I used the lances for halberds on my chosen)
Or if you want to equip with just axes or just swords or something. Maybe we can trade some.
O, I also have a buttload of flaggie extras, they make for some cool "Tzeentch-i-fying" parts. (skulls+scrolls, hourglass etc)
Us Chaos players need to help each other make the dream armies we all want.
(seriously, just let me know. Ill send some parts in the mail.)
Ill start a paint log pretty soon as well. just as soon as I buy some new paints, so I can actually start with the painting.
I’ve had no problem ranking them up with hand weapon and shields, or flails. I, too, keep the cape for my champion. I do put the shoulder pad on, it makes them look more “gladiatorish”. I find that, without it, my marauders look a little too flimsy.
"How do you stop a Chaos Knight from charging? No seriously, HELP!" André le Bouffon, jester of the Bretonnian court - last words.
the marauders actually look better with the shoulder armor on imo, since the joint there can be a bit obvious. I haven't really had any trouble with ranking my models. I have spread a few beastman arms and weapons in among the marauders for those axes and cool looking swords. I also used the head from the horsemen set on my rank and file since those are some of the coolest heads GW has put out (hoping for kislev equivalents XX)
