Welcome to Librarium Online!
So, after making a fairly successful thread concerning Knight Builds, I decided to make on about Ogre Builds! So, a build I was considering is 4 ogres with Chaos Armour, AHW and MoK for taking out infantry. Think about it, that's 5 attacks each! While they'll only be S4, against Skaven, Goblins, Elves, Vampires or Daemons, these things could wreak some havoc upon low toughness troops! I was also thinking about using Great Weapons with MoK, but I think Dragon Ogres could do a better job of that because of their chariot busting awesomeness. So, anyone else have builds they've been considering or builds that they've tried and had success with?
hey man ogres are nice purchase army but the mok gives them frenzy and can be baited out very easy and then just get smashed from every angle.
They are nice though thats the only downfall from frenzy.
I take trolls with throgg but the only thing from that is there stupid.
I wouldn't run Ogres without a unit of Warhounds in front of them, redirecting things straight into the path of the Ogre's charge, so that shouldn't be a problem! The hounds could actually flee through the frenzied Ogres, and the Ogres wouldn't have to take a panic test or anything!
using Chaos armour , MoN and great weapons are a great way for hunting knights.

I dont think AHW is a good choice for these guys. They are only gonna be throwing out STR 4 attacks which isnt that good. With their low initiative I wouldnt consider using these guys with anything other than GWs. They are going to strike last anyways uneless they charge and STR 6 is just so much better.
If I was using Ogres, I would make sure to add a standard and a musician. It could easily make the difference, and it's not too expensive.
The choice between AHW and GW is really, for me anyway, a matter of "Who am I facing". Elves: AHW. Brett: GW and so on.
"How do you stop a Chaos Knight from charging? No seriously, HELP!" André le Bouffon, jester of the Bretonnian court - last words.
Even against T3 troops, Str 6 is checking for 2s and Str 4 is looking for 3s. That's still a boost if you give them Str 6. You're also forgetting armor saves... Str 6 will cut down on the opponent's armor save big time.
Against WS4 T3 4+ armor with a higher initiative:
3 Str 6 attacks: 1.5 hits, 1.25 wounds
4 Str 4 attacks: 2 hits, 1.333 wounds, .8888 wounds after save.
Even with low toughness, your opponent would also have to bring no better than a 6+ armor. Those circumstances will be few and far between. And, even under those circumstances, T3 with no armor will fall to anything quickly anyway, so you don't need to devote a unit of ogres to hunt them.
Mathematically, GW ogres perform slightly better against low toughness RnF and much better against high T or high armor.
As for armor? I think chaos armor is pretty much a no brainer there.
As for marks? Well, it's the same as the debate for other units. Everyone has a preference. If you're gonna give 'em MoK, be sure to screen them appropriately, and read up on the errata about charging with screeners. I'm partial to slaanesh myself... cheap (almost) ITP is very nice.
