What do you use for character defence (magic items, equipment options, tactics etc) and why? How does the challenge rule affect the decision? thanx
1) The regen crown is a solid item.
2) Runeshield is great against lists that run with powerful characters with magic weapons.
3) Another option I came up with for a Lord level character is:
-The Crimson Armour of the Dragon
-Talisman of Protection
5+ ward and immune to killing blow and cannot take multiple wounds from a single attack. Not bad and will leave you with enough points for Axe of Khorne.
On an exalted hero I would run this setup:
Armor of Morrsleib
It has a 2+ armor save, and a 3+ ward save from non-magical attacks
For a lord all I would add in would the be the crown of everlasting conquest
then you'd have a 2+ armor, 3+ ward, and a 4+ regen
yes the disc does give an armor point, look at the paragraph on the mount page that says they are cavalry mounts, last time I checked cav mounts give a point of armor
I serve my master and do as he wants. He wants the badlands, thus they will be his.
-Shriva the Damned
If you're worried about missile fire, a chariot is actually quite reliable. Once it charge, you're in combat, and shouldn't need that much defense.
I like the crown, too. I'm usually torn between Morrslieb and Golden Eye. When I really worry about artillery. I usually go with Collar of Khorne anyway, since it grants a ward save and Magic resistance, which our army needs.
"How do you stop a Chaos Knight from charging? No seriously, HELP!" André le Bouffon, jester of the Bretonnian court - last words.
mark of nurgle and armor of damnation = reroll 5's to hit usually. That's not too shabby. I think there are plenty of ways to defend a character.
The number one way is to pick your battles carefully when you can.
