Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hello followers of Chaos, I'm a High Elf looking to expand into some Warriors of Chaos for my next army. The idea of an all Nurgle army is attracting my attention more than anything else. I was wondering if this is even practical. Me and my friends play relatively friendly games, so I'm looking for a power hungry list, but I still want to do well. I'll mostly be playing against, Brettonia (with a so-far dangerous unit of Pegasus), Greenskins, Empire, and Wood Elves. I really don't like maruaders either. I'd be fine with one unit, but I really would like to avoid them at all costs, mainly focusing around some hardcore warriors!
P.S. Maybe someone could give me a 500pt list to help me see what kind of models I should be looking at?
depends on what kind of force you like to play... 500 points aint much to run marks but here's an all cav list for ya with a Nurgle General. Fast list with the Marauder Horse harassing your opponent.
1 Chaos Sorcerer of Nurgle @ 136 Pts
Mark of Nurgle
5 Chaos Knights @ xxx Pts
5 Marauder Horsemen @ 81 Pts
5 Marauder Horsemen @ 81 Pts
Total Roster Cost: 498
or a more balanced....
Exalted hero @ 221
Axe of Khorne
favor of the gods
5 Marauder Horeseman @81
10 Chaos Warriors @196
Shields & Hand weapons
Total 498 points
I don't think there will be many WoC players who will tell you to avoid marauders. Take a look at the army list section and check which units are most frequent;y used.
well you sure won't be the first to avoid marauders, many WoC players don't like the models (including me) and full plate army's can work against some army's, but it's just not as competitive as a mixed army. it's still fun to play though in my oppinion, since the opponent usually has not idea what to attack first since everything is hard to kill.
still though, if you hate marauder models you can always try to use something else to represent them:
-bretonnian men at arms? convert the models a bit so they look more chaosy (some skulls here, some runes there etc etc)
-empire flaggelants ( or how ever you spell that ) these guys already look like a chaos warband.
-and something that caught my eye was a unit of chaos dwarfs ( even though they usually have chaos armor and marauders don't.
anyway, there are tons of ways to represent a marauder unit and the fact is that this unit is actually very important if you want to make a reasonable tournement army ( or atleast that is what they say but i've not used them myself yet.)
but before you start making a list and stuff, maybe you should think about what kind of army you want to make.
-full cav army: lots of knights, marauder horsemen ( which look a lot better then the normal marauders), mounted characters everywhere.
fast moving, hard hitting, low model count though.
-armoured benemoth army: lots of chaos warriors, some knights, some sorcerers in the units (nurgle sorcerers preferred) and some spawns for flank protection.
slow, low model count compared to most army, but also unstoppable (i've learn to have faith in my warriors because they can take an amazing amount of punishment and still hit back with enough to break the attacking unit) THEY JUST DON'T DIE!: will be the main thing your opponent will be saying during games =P
-mixed army: warriors as main damage unit, marauders as tar pits or flank chargers, some marauder horsemen or knights and some characters.
proven to work and used alot
now there is one thing though, at 500 pts...with WoC...you're going to have your behind beaten by just about anything if you want to use a full plate army. marauders are perfect for such a small battle with their low points costs but warriors are just too expensive to make a reasonable army.
however, in a 1000 points list full plate army's can work very well, the enemy does not have to points to get something that can take down the warriors with ease and thus will either keep shooting you until you get close and slaughter his entire army with less then half of yours. or try to run around you and flank charge you, in which case a 1000 points is not enough to make most units killy enough to take down a warriors block ( even with a flank charge). i've seen sworddancers, dryads, halberdiers all bounce of the sides of my warriors.
and after you've played on 1k for while you can always expand to 1500 and see if you have thought of a way to get some marauders in your army and be satisfied.
the army i use on 1k includes: 1 sorcerer, 2 blocks of 10 warriors, 5 knights, 2 spawns and 10 warhounds. And i'm trying out different load outs and marks as we speak and i bet it you could easily make a nice nurgle setup with this base.
damn this is a big post....well anyway, my thoughts on the situation
Good luck man
Vid sums it up pretty well.
At 500 pts, you can't avoid the marauders horsemen cruise missile (M of Khorne). That gets you 10 S5 attacks + 10 S3 attacks on a charge for just 105 pts!
Throw in a Warriors of Chaos unit. Mark the m Nurgle since that's what you want! It's good mark for Warriors.
Now you're at 300 pts.
Throw in a sorcerer with a Book of secret and a Power familiar. He now has 3 spells and 6 casting dice for himself. Mount him on a Chaos Steed. +2 armor save and M7 for only 16 pts!
That's it, 500 pts!
"How do you stop a Chaos Knight from charging? No seriously, HELP!" André le Bouffon, jester of the Bretonnian court - last words.
Well, the armoured behemoth army is what I'm really aiming for. If you really think the Marauder horsemen are needed for low point games then I can include them. If anyone has any good pics/ideas for conversions for these or for normal marauders let me know .
Thanks for all the help guys I appreciate it , rep to u if I could give it
hey it's always a pleasure to help a new minion of chaos.
about the marauder horsemen, have you seen the models? because those models are already pretty wicked compared to the normal marauders..
but if you need idea's for marauders, i suggest to just look at infantry models from other army's. making models look chaotic is easy, horn here, skull there, some beards etc etc so you can pretty much use anything i think
just to start you off, here's the list i'm working with:
http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...d-1000pts.html (vidrians Woc warband (1000pts))
i've played a few games and it's working wonders for me, but since you're going to use nurgle, i would suggest to tone down the sorcerer to a nurgle one on foot or on a horse and use the left over points to buy you're warriors some marks
hope this helps
Thanks I'm going to go pick up the book today! I only have the old one with me =/ my friend played awhile ago, quit gave me his 1 unit of warriors and book XD

Now, seeing as I really don't want marauders (at least unmounted) and I'm in love with your style of list (exactly what I was looking for) Should I get the battalion as it includes 20 marauders or would buying each unit be cheaper?
Yeah, I'd avoid foot marauders, but definitely would recommend 2 units of khorne horsemen with flails.
Against wood elves, if you choose to go for a foot army, expect to not have any fun. He'll dance around you and shoot you to death and there's nothing you can do about it unless you can out magic him.
At any point level your bread and butter should be chaos knights. Nurgle knights are excellent. Never seen people talk about nurgle horsemen. I guess if you really want to go nurgle, you should go with warriors, since marauders just suck and nurgle horsemen seem to be a waste of points as well. Just make sure to have 2 units of knights at a 2250 point game to be able to catch wood elves.

Do they suck so hard? aren't units of 10 marauders mark of Slaneesh good meat shields? They can be used as detachment units to bigger units of warriors and they can also take quarters. They cost nothing point wise and are better than many other core unit in other armies.
I know the models are butt ugly but that can always be fixed. If I where to do a Nurgle army and include Marauders, I would use the Beastherds, making the Marauders out of a beastmen body and changing the heads. Then being nurgle, I'd add some entrails, some skulls, and some pieces of rusting armor and there you have a new Marauder model.
I know he will look beastly with hooves and stuff But that is chaos after all!
Other models i believe are from the empire list and i think they were included in the time of storm of chaos. I think they were the Teutogen guards(the only problem with these guys is that they have too much armor)
