Welcome to Librarium Online!
Been playing Fantasy for about 5 years now and found an old box that had my 1500 pt Daemonic legion in it and found my old DP of Nurgle. Now I have read about the DP of Tzeentch that is being played by quite a few people on these boards and in my local club but is there a good setup for nurgle? I Figure you could pretty much just change the mark and you would be good to go with a prince that doesn't have as great a ward save but is there any other combo that might make him more effective? I'd really like to use the guy again because it was my first attempt (and success) at modeling and painting. Thanks for the help!
I started off using a DP of Nurgle when the book came out before finding out how harsh Infernal Gateway is when it goes right.
The set up i use to use was
Deamon Prince - MoN, Level 2 or 4 (Depends on spare points),Mantle of Chaos, Blood Curdleing Roar.
Then i aimed to throw him at skirmishers, units with ranged weapons and warmachines, avoiding those big blocks until he could get a rear or flank on a unit in combat with the warriors or chosen.
If you go for a level 4 then he can be used to fly around behind your opponents units causing terror and hopefully casting Rot Glorious Rot. Or if you want to save points and still use a DP then just drop the magic all together.
Hope this helped, it prob didnt im terrible at explaining things when not face to face with some one.
I think that since you want to go nurgle and he already has protection from shooting, using mantle of chaos would make him invulnerable to shooting. The next you need is protection from magic so go for a fury of the bloodgod.
This would mean your dp would be heavily protected against ranged attacks.
I don't know about magic levels. i'd probably leave him at either level 2 or no magic at all!

It could work. He's expensive and not exactly good in combat. However WS4 models will hit on 5s. Besides that he won't win many fights against combat heroes. 5+ ward and toughness 5 being his oly assets.

I think he would be an expensive character for hunting warmachines, small 5 - 10 man ranged units and pos small units of light - medium cavalry. He will struggle to make his points back in a game (the same way most DP's do) but he will iritate people at least.
Well, the -1 to hit for ranged attacks sure makes him a lot safer to fly around.
Since Rot Glorious Rot doesn't need a LoS, you can even send him in combat without a huge loss in your spell selection. And, against WS4 units, you gain a big advantage. He'll be worth his points, and be hard to bring down. Against ennemy warmachines crew, he can even Terror them away from the warmachine itself!

Ive been thinking of a Nurgle DP and thought Banner of doom and Diabolic Splendour. then fly around killing warmachines, gunlines etc and letting any terror test go off with -2 leadership. Is that a bit hopeful you think? i just think turn 2 in an empire gun line and they will all scatter like mad with the average Ld 5/6
