The armies posted in this forum are very stereotypical and always use the same lord typologies and mounts. I too tend to pick up one typology and stick to it.
Now i was wondering, why doesn't anyone include say a manticore in his list.
Is a Manticore so unplayable?
I think the main reason is that when you invest that many points in a model, you want something more for protection than the toughness and number of wounds the Manticore has. In addition it's a large target and therefore it's impossible to hide it behind your own lines.
In smaller battles, though, they can wreak havoc.
EDIT: Sorry, I thought I was in the DE forums, removed some wrong information.

5000p. High Elves
you can play them. Anyone with any amount of shooting will thank you for the free 200pts though. Disc of Tzeentch is really good and better for the points in comparison.
I think for modelling purposes (not gaming) the manticore provides a lot of fun possibilities.
Ive modelled mine in a flying pose using the flying stands from 40k (much stronger) and bending the feet back. They are awesome to land beside or behind large blocks of infantry, terror causing them into running off the board. But yes, they do get slaughtered easily by dwarves...
Ha ha ha... Post destroyed for being in the wrong forum!
I didn't even know that Warriors of Chaos could take a Manticore...

Uhm, aren't we in the Warriors of Chaos forum guys? I have no idea what a level 4 sorceress is ;D
Anyway, I was considering using a Manticore just for the awesome factor of having a Lord of Tzeench with a Runeshield, Collar of Khorne and Helm of Many Eyes and a flail on the back to take out enemy characters. What's that? You have a Pendant of Khaeleth and Armour of Eternal Servitude? *Points to list*
I can imagine the look on my face now...
My WEs love to see a manticore lined up opposite them. I can take it out in a couple of turns of shooting (my latest list starts the game with 51 shots).
In combat, it's a great target, too. I'll dump all my attacks on it as the rider is certainly much tougher to land a wound on after armor, wards, and maybe regen is considered.
Myself, I just think they're bad news.
Yeah, it's essentially putting your Lord on a giant "SHOOT ME" sign, but it's much more original than 3 Tzeench sorcerers on disks! Deploying behind a wood or hill should also prevent him from taking the initial barrage of shooting. A disk is more practical for competetive games, I must admit. My opponents play Skaven and O&G anyway, so a giant terror causing monster is quite beneficial!
I was planning on focusing on the killing blow factor, giving the rider an axe of khorne. That way the 2 would deal 9 attacks str 6 and str5 killing blow.
But you are right in pointing out it's vulnerability to shooting. Its a pity though since the model is very nice and it would stan out as a center piece of any army list.
Now what about a chaos dragon. Waht is your opinion on that??
give your lord the mon and you cancel out the large target and chaos dragons are sick but i want one so bad
Please don't cut me at the knees short scary giner person with a beard.
