Welcome to Librarium Online!
What do you guys think about running a demon prince as a monster. His stat line is pretty nasty. Maybe not as many attacks or strength as some other monsters, but he has his Pros as well. WS8 is very nice and a 4+ ward save for only 315 points ain't bad neither. The biggest thing I like about him is that he's stubborn and flies.
The reason I never bring my DP into combat is because he costs 555 points and I'd rather have him throwing spells around. However, if I have a DP that costs in the low 300 point range and use his flight properly he could be a nasty asset to any army. Throw the Mantle of Chaos on him and he makes for a great distraction / war-machine hunter for your slow army. Throw the Soporific Musk on him and now all your fast armies are catching everything that flees.
Just don't throw him against characters that can challenge and kill him.
I'm thinking of trying him out in a no magic, all cav list. Give him tzeentch and soporific musk, he costs 335 points. Have 2 exalted's, 1 the general probably khorne in some khorne knights, 1 the BSB in another big unit of knights. 1 scroll caddy(maybe even a scroll buggy) Throw in some m.horsemen and you should have a decent list. If I got the points(laugh) I could throw the mantle of chaos on him. I think with the mantle, if you aren't fighting cannons, this guy can just fly around behind your enemies line and he really can't do anything about it short of magic.
How do you like the idea? Only reason I bring it up is because I haven't seen anyone discuss a DP that wasn't the general.

I haven't seen a DP discussed that wasn't a level 4 wizard, and I've been thinking the same thing. What about giving the DP you meantioned Diabolic splendour, to enhance his terror causing?
Well the DP really isnt a CC beast. For 300-350 points you have to consider what you could get instead. That many points is another cruise missile and a DO/Knight unit.
And I wouldnt have the DP charge anything big by himself. If you dont think you can win the combat I would say its a bad choice. Sure he is stubborn, but Ld 8 is not impossible to fail and you will fail if you throw him in losing situations enough times.
He does fly which is nice, and its a skill I love but I find in the form of a disk exalted that costs 188 points. If you like the idea of flying this is a cheaper alternative. The disk cant terror bomb but he can break chariots.
I personally dont think hes damaging enough to be worth the points.
Mhm. Surely for 350 points, your CC Lord is going to destroy any DP you put him up against?
well, there's no question that a chaos lord on disc would be just as or more powerful, and resilient in combat, but I think Pinkus is just looking for something different or fun. I think there are several setups that could really make your DP a harassment unit (expensive, but still a good distractor)
I'd probably give him the MR2 gift and a lvl1 though just for the extra magic defense.
I like the idea of him using bloodcurdling roar or stream of corruption I think? I also like the diabolic splendor against everything except deamons/undead
I can for sure see it being viable for a more fun non competitive game.
Pinkus if you want to switch things up Id reccomend trying a Nurgle DP if you havnt already. A number of the nurgle spells can really be good on him. Fly behind enemy lines and pop off a Rot Gloryious Rot. That is a nasty spell really. A fleshy abbundance on your DOs would make them tougher if you need them to survive a nasty killy charge. And the weakening spell is actually really nice in certain scenarios. Declare a charge with a unit on something mean and make it not so mean in the magic phase.
Im ranting now but Id be curious to see what your take on that lore with your DP is.
I don't think I would take him as MoN as he would lack really any survivability with no armor and only a +5 ward save. Risky biz
He will get -1 BS when shooting at him. Plus he still has good magic defense. If you are scared you could switch the tendrils for the cloak and make him completely unkillable to ranged. The nurgle lore shouldnt need the reroll since you dont need a 5 dice roll.
Hmmm. First model I ever bought (aside from Necromunda a long, long time ago) was Bel'akor, because of looks alone. Never did anything with him and have often contemplated using it as a Daemon Prince (which would require me putting together a whole WoC army for one model... heh).
My current idea is to run him with Diabolic Splendour and field a Doom Totem BSB, and maybe combine it with a giant or a pair of hellcannons. The idea is to send everything that isn't ItP running off the board.
