This is probably best asked in a different section but since the specific spell I'm interested in is Infernal Gateway then I''ll go ahead and ask. It is not a magic missile so can it be cast without line of sight? The wording on the book is confusing since it doesn't say that it does require it, and yet there are spells that specifically say "line of sight is required" or "Line of sight is NOT required" for example Dark magic bladewind says los needed. Whereas Infernal gateway says enemy unit within 24 inches.
The argument from a fellow player was this: If a scout unit is in the woods, just because they're within 24 inches didn't mean I could blast them into oblivion. My argument, however, was that if my sorcerer was in combat I could cast gateway into a nearby unit.
Which leads me into another subject which is somewhat related. If I in fact cannot cast gateway into a unit that's covered by another what's an effective way to field a sorcerer without having him hanging out on his own? I've played with a defensive sorcerer on a disc, any other thoughts? I know it's a lot to cover in 1 post but thanks for any input. Cheers.
If the spell doesnt dictate that it requires line of sight then you do not need line of sight. Gateway can be cast on anything not in combat within 24inches. If you dont want to run your sorcs around on discs just stick them with a group of knights. They have the same exact stats just without the mundane shield/ensorc weapon as a knight. If you are afraid of them having to challenge add a champion, but for my hero sorcs I prefer not to.
yes, it can
