Sooo, for Christmas I was thinking about starting my first Fantasy army. WoC of course! My plans were for a Calvary list, as I love Calvary and every aspect of em! So, what would be a good 1500 point beginner list for someone in my situation. Like what models would you recommend, what websites with the best prices you don't mind sharing and any tips you have on running WoC and Calvary armies. Thanks!
Well if you like cavalry then I would suggest two or three units of marauder horsemen and at least one unit of knights. Top it off with mounted characters and maybe someone on a daemonic mount.
All of the non-hero models for cav army is plastic, and so therefore pretty reasonable on the pocketbook. As far as places with the best prices, I would imagine your closest game shop would be at the top of your list since they went to the trouble of taking on the debt to open a store, stock it with your favorite goodies, and build tables and terrain for everyone to use free of charge.
Yeah, your first stop should be your local club you'll play at, if that's not an option, you can try something like bartertown. I think the main GW site has some deals going on now.
As far as the list goes. 2 units of marauder horsemen and 2 units of chaos knights, get a sorcerer on a steed and you probably would find a tzeentch lord on disc a fun character to play too. After that the options explode. Go for a demon prince (buy belakor), or a hell cannon, or dragon ogres. They're all good options. Don't forget to buy 10 warhounds. They're priceless.
Exalted on Steed with chaos runesword and a shield
Tzeentch lvl2 sorcerer on disc
book of secrets and golden eye of tzeentch
Nurgle lvl2 sorcerer on steed
Power familiar + dispel scroll
5 khorne horsemen with flails
5 khorne horsemen with flails
5 Nurgle Knights
5 Tzeentch Knights
That leaves 75 points or so to custom the list more. In terms of what you need to buy for that: Lord of Tzeentch, Mounted sorcerer of Chaos, 2 boxes of horsemen, 2 boxes of knights, 1 box of hounds. That's about $165 or so I think.

If you are at all comfortable with converting, you could easily take a box of 5 knights and convert them to 5 lords/heroes/sorcerers on barded steeds (the daemonic steed is not worth it in a fear-causing unit, imo.)
This'll save you a bunch of cash.
4 boxes of knights (100 dollars)
3 boxes of horsemen (66 dollars)
1 box of hounds (20 dollars)
And you are set for a 3000 point list for super cheap (even cheaper if you can save 20% online.) If you are not comfortable with converting, the lords are beautiful and plentiful, but the selection of mounted sorcerers is pretty paltry. Check eBay and other online stores. TheWarStore and Maelstom games seem to be the most popular online resources.
