Welcome to Librarium Online!
I can't make my mind on the characters I want to field in my army list. I'm used to run 800-1000 pts into the Character section. I simply wanted to know what other players have trIED before I MAKE MY MIND.
So, what works best for you ?
Both army list were use in an infantry heavy list (2 unit of warriors, 1 unit of marauders, 1 unit of knights, Hellcanon, dogs and horsemen).
The no magic list and also my favorite since the army does not stop functioning if one character dies. The full list is here (All Comers Footsloggers WoC ). The disc sorcerer is a war machine/skirmisher hunter (the bsb can do that also):
Exalted Hero [general], MoT, Steed, Shield, Axe of Khorne; 186 pts
Chaos Sorcerer, steed, 2x dispel scrolls; 151 pts
Chaos Sorcerer, MoT, Disc, Bloodcurdling roar, Enchanted shield, Golden Eye; 185 pts
Exalted Hero, Army Battle Standard, Flail, Shield, MoS, Steed of Slaanesh, Armour of Morrslieb, Necrotic Phylactery; 219 pts
The heavy magic list, every hero avoids contact with the opponent unless I know I win:
Sorcerer Lord, lvl4, MoS, Steed of Slaanesh, Dispel Scroll, Infernal Puppet, Armour of Morrslieb; 395 pts
Chaos Sorcerer, Lvl 2, MoS, Steed, Power Familiar, Book of Secrets; 191 ps
Exalted Hero, BSB, Banner of the Gods, Shield, Steed; 281 pts
total 867 pts

My BSB, Tzeentch, on disc, flail, shield (for missile fire or hand weapon use against t3,lt armored opponents), golden eye of tzeentch. Only one magic item, takes out light opponents and war machines, march blocks, adds combat res to bigger combats and rerolls if needed.
My Favorite (and many will agree he's great): Exalted BSB, MoT, Disc, Flail, Shield, Banner of the Gods.
I only really run magic heavy lists now, they're a lot more fun.
I tend to use this guy a lot: Sorcerer, MoN, Chariot, Lvl 2, Infernal Puppet
and for lords i either use:
a) Sorcerer Lord, MoT, Disc, Enchanted Shield, Golden Eye, Spell Familiar, Book of Secrets, Lvl 4, Blood Curdling Roar
b) Daemon Prince, Tendrils, Fury of the Blood God, Blood Curdling Roar
c) Sorcerer Lord, MoS, Dragon, Crown of Everlasting Conquest, Spell familiar, Book of Secrets, Lvl 4, Diabolic Splendor
The only combat hero i really use is Chaos Lord, MoN, Armour of Damnation, Runesword, Word of Agony. Cause it's just nasty.
2010 WoC Cav W/L/D - 7/3/1
My standard Exalted combination is Juggernaut, Mark of Khorne, Flail, Shield, Favour of the Gods. I'm thinking of taking a Khorne Exalted BSB with Warbanner and on a chariot. My Sorcerers are generally level 2, Mark of Nurgle, barded steed and 2 scrolls.
I plan on take this combo to the local Tourney
Sword of Might, Enchanted Shield, Golden eye of Tzeentch, Spell Familiar, Dispel Scroll
Disk of Tzeentch
Level 2, MofN
Power Familiar, Book of Secrets
Armour of Morrslieb, Necrotic Phylactery
Disk of Tzeentch
Battle Standard bearer
I'm a fan of:
Exalted Champion, BSB, Chaos Runesword, Barded Steed, Shield Mark of Whatever-you-want
He's got the statline of a chaos lord minus 1 wound. with no mark he comes in around 206pts
I played with Chaos Lord, Chaos Dragon, Axe of Khorne, Crown of Everlasting conquest, Mark of Nurgle, Diabolic Splendour and favour of the Gods
he's pretty awesome too...
As for a god combo, a Lvl 4 Daemon Prince supported by Tzeench and Nurgle sorcerers makes for one helluva magic phase...
A combat lord, BSB, and two scroll caddies on chariots makes for a great combat army.
its all up to you in how you want your army to work.
Or try the flying circus on for size!
Sorcerer Lord, MoT, Disc, Lvl 4, Spell Familiar, Golden Eye, Rod of Torment, Enchanted Shield
Sorcerer, MoT, Disc, Lvl 2, Power Familiar, Scroll
Sorcerer, MoT, Disc, Lvl 2, Infernal Puppett, Bloodcurdling Roar
Sorcerer, MoT, Disc, Lvl 2, Skull of Katam, Third Eye
And a unit of Chosen w Book of Secrets on the Champ, and Banner of Wrath
Thats 14 Power Dice across 5 casters, with two bound magic missiles
7 dispel Dice - 1 Scroll
Run the Discs in a formation to benefit from the skull of Katam, with +2 to cast, its possible that one of you level twos may be able to get gateway off on a 13+... more than likely the magic phase would involve four flickering fires (on 1 PD, cast on a 3+ don't mind if I do!), a fireball (on 2 PD) and the two bound items, using up 6 PD, leaving 8 to potentially cast 2 gateways, one on 3 from a lvl 2, one on 5 from the Lord.
I have yet to test it, but i think it would be lots of fun...
My Current lord is
unmarked lvl 4 sorcerer lord, Daemonic mount, word of agony, sword of might. enchanted shield, dispel scroll, collar of Khorne.
In the past i have used
DP - MoN, Lvl 4, Mantle of Chaos, Rage of the blood god - great for taking out war machines and missile troops
lvl 4 slaanesh Sorcerer
Book of Secrets
Crown of ever Lasting Conquest
lvl2 Nurgle Sorcerer
lvl2 Tzeentch Sorcerer
Talisman of Protection
Blood Curdling Roar
Best magic heavy set up I've seen and/or played. Very very reliable against all armies I've played.
