    Ogres, Dragon Ogres, or Trolls?

While doing my daily run through the forums I noticed that two of the weekly topics covered trolls and dragon ogres. Intrigued, I read both threads, but still could not come to the conclusion. Which one do I take? Do I mix it up? What works best? As I read my WoC army book, I sit here comparing each unit, cost, stat block, abilities, etc. However, I still cant decide. I've read the pros and cons for DO and Trolls, but there isn't anything about ogres. Any ideas?

it depends massivly on what you have in the rest of your army but this is what I would say:

If you are going to take Throgg then definately go for trolls (who doesnt like a monsterous horde)
If not then dragon ogres are the way to go (trolls become less point worthy because of stupidity) plus the extra wound, weapon skill , movement, leadership and initive are well worth the extra 20 points

The question really should be Knights, Dragon Ogres or Chariots.

Unfortunately Ogres and Trolls are poor choices after these three.

Alright, thanks guys. Because I was looking at ogres and dragon ogres, and I was wondering which to take for a low point game. The dragon ogres have a much better stat block, but for another 30 pts per model? Is it worth it?

@ Null_sheen Very well, lets ask that question too then. Knights, dragon ogres or chariots? What are the pros and cons for each? Which should I take?

Chaos knights will always come out on top against the other special slots. That said, if you don't mind losing games because of a failed stupidity check, trolls can be ridiculous.

Yeah, I was gonna go with trolls for the vomit so I can wipe out knights in no time, but the stupidity checks really hurt, esp with ld 4, and i dont want to keep my general with them the whole game. Knights are the best choice? I was gonna go for them regardless, I'm just wondering with monster to take, just to have some big, cool looking models in my army, not to mention some beefy guys with 3 or 4 wounds each who pack a punch.

here a general look at the special chioses u have mentioned in my opinion feel free to disagree:

    ogres
    - pros
    cheaper (save points)
    can take marks
choise of equiptment including 4+ save

    -cons
    weak compared to other choises
    low weapon skill
    little armour (easily ignored)

    dragon orres
    -pros
    3d6 roll to persue
with great weapons are great for heavy infintary/ knights)
    can fill most rolls

    -cons
expensive (at 65 points a pop youll struggle to have many of these)
again 4+ save is not very good

    trolls
    -pros
with Throgg can be CORE + leadership buff
    vomit is usful against knights
regen great against most things + rolls on eye of the gods

    -cons
    stupid + ld 4
    low weapon skill
    bad save

    Knights
    -pros
    great save
    can have marks
can both act as anvils in quick armies and hammers
    can have marks

    -cons
units cost at least 200 points
    single wounds

    Charriot
    -pros
    good hammer
    can have marks
    good number of attacks

    -cons
    slower than others
    watch out for strength 7

    thats what I think anyway

To me it looks pretty much between KNIGHTS and DRAGON OGRES.

Id go for dragon ogres somewhat...their 4 wounds make them really resilient in combat which means they will more than often strike back. knights of chaos wont always be so lucky... ; )

well knights are the best special hands down. However I'm feeling a lot of hate on the trolls but for their points cost they can really wreak havoc. I only take trolls if I'm taking throgg or I have my general advancing with my army generally in a block unit. If keeping your general nearby isnt a problem then I would definitely try them. They all have their rolls, really depends on the army composition but I'm inclined to take knights over dragon ogres most days.
