Topic of the Week - Forsaken

This is the start of a new series, that will hopefully bring new ideas and tactics to the forums. Each week, a new topic will be posted up about a different unit in the army book. This gives you your chance to discuss the unit to its fullest. So, please leave your comment!

This week's topic is - Forsaken

Do you use them? Why? How big are your units and how do you use them?

    Discuss.

    Kuffy

They are very expensive (points) and nobody have enough special slots. Forsaken are slower than knights and they are more expensive than warriors + occupy special slot.
    Forsaken are not my choice.

If forsaken may skirmish they will find their place and will be useful Skirmish would also fit their mad nature. Maybe in the next army book

    On the other hand...
I will prefer forsaken over chosen. Yes chosen are different unit for different tasks but both are special infantry and chosen may be replaced by basic warriors. Better speed is always useful. Just use carefully due to frenzy. Forsaken may be great flankers.

PS: They should also have chaos armour and acces to marks with some effects.

When I first read the description I was like "Wow, what a fluffy and characterful interpretation of Chaos skirmishers..." and then I realized they weren't, and then I quickly turned the page. Charging 12" in great but if that was the only concern I'd take Khorne Ogres for the guaranteed 4 S6 if I want number of attacks I can take Khorne Chosen for Ws6, 4 S5 attacks with the possibility of S5 or 5 Attacks, or T5 to match. They just fulfill a role that was unwanted and unneeded.

the only problem with them being skirmishers.... they're frenzied, which makes them insanely easy to bait in any direction.

but based on the way they are now, they aren't worth taking for anything.

I agree completely. I also rarely ever use more than 2-3 special choices, always sticking to knights/dragon ogres combo strat

The only way I could ever see them used is as ranked backup for other fast moving monsters like Chaos Ogres or Trolls, but I still think that for the same (base) points cost a unit of Chosen would perform much better, albeit in a different role.
Thanks a lot for reading my post, I really appreciate it.

I wouldn't say not to convert a unit to look like their description in the army book because they sound/look really characterful; real shame about the rules.

say um, question about these fellas..

i was a bit turned off when the chaos daemons were no longer mixed with warriors, so i need an excuse here:
Would it look ok (in official tournaments) if i used the metal Daemonettes with extra shoulderplates as Forsaken? (i just want to field the ladies)

Or do you think daemonettes and forsaken are two different dimensions? So far only the T4 and heavy armour bothers me, but im still working on the conversions. How would a smelly rulelawyerer react to this?
