This is the start of a new series, that will hopefully bring new ideas and tactics to the forums. Each week, a new topic will be posted up about a different unit in the army book. This gives you your chance to discuss the unit to its fullest. So, please leave your comment!
This week's topic is - Chosen
How many per unit? What is your best/favourite setup with them? Do you mark them? And is it worth it? What options do you give them?
If you have your core satisfied I think chosen are better for their points than warriors. WS6 helps here and there, mostly in the killing department, since you won't be facing many WS6 stuff, but you should be facing a bunch of WS5 guys. After that you get a bonus buff for free and any of the buffs you can get make the unit much better than just plain warriors.
Its almost mandatory to take a champion with the favor of the gods. You keep turnings 6s and 8s into 7s for your initial EotG roll and you increase your chance for a game changing buff dramatically.
Run them 6 wide with shields and halberds.
Nastiest infantry in the game, hands down.

Initially I thought Chosen were the carry for Warshrines and they worked cohesively together hands down. I've been seeing in a few RTT's lately the use of larger blocks of chosen, independent of warshrines that have been decimating a lot of list....if they get to combat. Like any high point-value infantry list they require a bit more strategy to get into combat. Favour of the goods is a steal for chosen w/ or without warshrines at 5pts. It eliminates the chances of getting most of the less attractive Gifts.
I bloody love Chosen, ALWAYS the bodyguard for my footslogging hero(es).
On a related note, does anyone take Halberds on Chosen?
Thanks a lot for reading my post, I really appreciate it.
A little blog me and some friends have got going: http://www.weliketron.blogspot.com
Wrote up the chosen part on the tactica, but all in all, I find them great anchors for footsloggers lists, nurgle or tzneetch with blasted standard for best effect (hate to loose those nasty warriors due to shooting) But I feel like they can be a supplement for knight's hitting power if you don't want to take them, plus I think the models and fluff is great. And lets not forget that roll on the eye of the gods table, its just amazing when your chosen cause terror.
I just don't rate these guys... Sure, they are evil in combat, but every game that I've ever seen or played involving Chosen has constituted the opposing player avoiding them like the plague... and with M4, this is not hard to do.
Knights and Drogres FTW.
CHosen are famous, they are one of the most powerfullinfantry in game. And their biggest disadvantages can be relatively easily toned down.
+ They have powerfull stats, may have magic banner and champion with magic item, free buff from EotG.
- Slow, fragile to warmachines and massive shooting, fragile to magic.
The stats are goo or powerful anvil unit which just hold the ground against anything and in fact can override the enemy like a train. But where are problems? First you are slow and you really cant runing around the table and play cat and mouse game - but what you can: sink massive amount of points in Chosen and build Deathstar. This means that your opponent will have to do something, especially if you play trong magic phase.Against shooting: you need the blasted banner. Against magic: you need 8 on EotG. They are expensive, so if you play them, it is worth to play also some warshrines.
Best mark: slaanesh or tzeentch (its up to you)
how many in a unit would you suggest?
Warchief Diggah o da Bloodmoon Squiggahs
For extreme Deathstar unit:
16 Chosen, MoT, Halberds, Shields, Full Command, Favour of the Gods, Blasted Standard; + Exalted BSB, MoT, Flail, Shield, Chaos Steed, Banner of the Gods. It is the most extreme unit U can probably get, but it is also too much expensive (around 700pts omg). For good support use two warshrines for getting the 8 roll and you will have
Terror, WS6, S4(5), T4, 14 attacks in front, Stubborn, AS2+ and WS6+/4+ against shooting and MR3...
For some decent unit:
11 Chosen, MoS, Halberds, Shields, FC, Favour, Blasted Banner+ Sorceror.
