So i went and bought a set of 3 dragon ogres off of GW's website, loved them(duh!) and really want to field some more but alas, they are not very cost effective moneywise, the only suggestion i've heard so far to shell them out in quantity is to buy saurus cavalry and use the lower half of the cold one mounts and add on some ogre torsos. Even then, they don't exactly proportion out properly as the torsos are much larger than the cold one mounts they would be glued to..... Suggestions? I'm looking to add 7 more to my arsenal.
I wonder if there will be cake.....
I used knights, centaurized them and put them on scenic ogre bases, gave them marauder heads to look more... natural i guess. It's hard to explain without pics, maybe ill put one up sometime.
2010 WoC Cav W/L/D - 7/3/1
I used normal chaos warriors cut back their legs and fixed them to cold one bodies... used the lances from the knights box to make great weapons, mounted them on 40 mm bases look really good... well better than the metal ones, but that's not hard.
I'l put a pic up on here once I get one off my phone.
I think you could get away using the DE coldones for the lower body but the upper body really depends how you want them to look, more beastie why not use some gor add some green stuff to make them abit more hairy, might look rather good next to a shaggoth! chaos warriors (like was already suggested) will certainly look the part if you want them to blend in with your army more
The Cold one Saurus Cavalry with Ogre tops looks really sweet, just a bit top heavy. Go on Ebay and look for a bits barn store, you will save a bunch of $$$.
To make the conversion you really need to cut the cold one past the collar all the way down to the shoulders themselves. Build the Irongut with the gut plate, then Cut the Ogre right below the waist. Put the Ogre on so the gut plate is flush to the shoulders, a little putty and it should look just about right.
It comes to like $90 CND for 4 Dragon Ogres.
Replace the gut plate with marauder shields
I've got a unit of dragon ogres made out of DE cold ones and black orcs. In a normal army they might not match but mine are going in a troll army. they fit alot better than ogres
