Welcome to Librarium Online!
I'm going to be fighting two Treemen at 2250. This is the mainstay army of the person I play Fantasy with most often so I'd like to figure out a few good strategies to deal with this.
He'll be taking a Treeman Ancient and a regular Treeman. I anticipate they'll be placed as anchors on either side of his battle line. The Lord will likely have the spites that allow you to only hit on '6's in a challenge. I'd imagine they'll treesurf towards me.
Some things I've thought of are:
- Using a Shaggoth against the Ancient, as there won't be a challenge and with a great weapon I'll be wounding the Lord on 2+.
- Using a large-ish unit of Dragon Ogres with Great Weapons.
- Using a Lord on a Dragon to kill the regular Treeman and then kill as many units as I can while the Ancient moves towards the Dragon. For this I am unsure which sword I'd want to take: the Hellfire Sword presents a good chance to one-shot a Treeman, but I am unsure how easily I can get that much-needed one unsaved wound on him with only S5. The alternative is the Runesword, which would also make the Lord better vs. other units and characters.
What do you guys think? Any useful spells? What about using a Sorcerer Lord on a dragon? Any suggestions?
"Not Another Step Back! Death to the Enemies of Man!"
A unit of 6 knights will do the job on a regular tree man make sure they stick with there magic weapons rather then lances your be hitting on 4's and wounding on 5's and he will have a save of 5+ your beat on combat res. maybe it will take two combats but your win. also bait the tree man out the woods let him charge the knights but have a hero charge the flank next turn its the lord tree man you wana be worried about if he has the set up i use on mine he will have d6 S2 poision attacks as well and D6 shooting S2 attacks so if you charge him he will get 2 stand and shoot reactions may be best to try and gate way the tree man ancient lol or just get it in like a tar pit and get multiple charges on it to take it down like have a 20 man unit of warriors with standard and war banner which should hold him for a few turns to get others in to kill him like your lord rear or flank him
hope this helps
I would go with the shaggoth. It's the most reliable way to wound him. A lord/sorcerer on disc would be a great option to peg him with flickering fires and also damage and pose a serious threat to his other support. Can also go lore of fire on a chaos steed. All the direct damage spells can take out a normal treeman.
The dragon lord will most likely cause the treeman to hide in the trees which your opponent seems prone to do. And if you fluff the attacks since he has the 6 to hit sprites it is quite possible you can fluff your attacks and your wounds.
Id rather take a giant, cheaper and just as able to put the hurt on the treeman. Mark of Slannesh makes it strike first and it still is cheaper than a shaggoth. At 2250 i advise against the dragon lord, 3k and up though? Heck yea, use him. The dragon can get the charge most likely unless you screw yourself over and fail charge, and the hellfire sword is the best monster/character killer we have, and one of the best in the game.
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
