Welcome to Librarium Online!
I've been looking at WoC and have been considering making a nice compact force real quick after the release of 8th Ed. since I think WoC should thrive from a lot of the rumors. So I was wondering, why do I never see anyone field Chosen and most lists here don't have them. Is there something I'm missing? They seem to be a cool fluff choice as well as really powerful unit in game.
Well, like most infantri units in the current edition, they're simply to slow to keep up with the rest of your units, they're releatively easy to shoot down, march block and flank. You can make a deathstar though, but that's boring
2 reasons: Too expensive and too slow.
2010 WoC Cav W/L/D - 7/3/1
I just stick with Warriors if I am going to field a Infantry based army. It is true that they are slow, and do cost a bit much for the ability to roll on the Eye of the Gods table. My current streak is rolling a "7" 9 times in a row..result is NOTHING HAPPENS.
Fair enough. I do think though that if I do end up piecing together an army, they should be a fun little fluff addition however. And anyway, they aren't that much better than warriors I guess unless you get good rolls on the table, so the extra points could be a huge waste. Anyway, thanks for the comments guys, they seem to be more of a theme/fluff choice than a competitive one, which is fine with me, because I'm not really looking to have a super competitive army anyway.
I use a unit of 10 Chosen to escort my Chaos Lord about half of the games I play. Some people claim that Chosen are too slow to keep up with the rest of your army, which is preposterous if the rest of your army is made up of infantry blocks and not cruise missiles. The problem is, IMO Chosen are only REALLY effective if they're supported with a shrine. At that point, they become a certified mini deathstar even at only 10 strong.
They are a very flavorful addition to the army, and can be rock hard. In a game against allied WE and Brets my Chosen unit was rear charged by dryads, flanked by a Bret lord on Hippo (who killed my lord in the challenge) and charged to the front by a 5-strong lance. I only lost the combat by 1 and easily passed the break test due to +1 LD. Not many other non-stubborn units could stand up to that kind of assault.
compared to dwarfs anything is super fast, has a dwarf player for 4 years (not anymore do to outside reasons) having an entire infantry army that moves a max 6 inchs is crazy annoying.
But joke aside. Compared to dogs, horsemen, knights, ogres, trolls, and dragon orges and giants, they are slow. I use them in a fluffy list with Sigvald. That way he confers his "I walk where ever rule" and the unit gets even better! But if run more fluff list then go for it! Also as someone that played Hordes of Chaos, aka the old book, the Chosen where chaos warriors with +1A and chaos armour. Making them like 20pts for a warrior with 2A and Chaos armor standard aka what warriors are now!! So compared to what they used to be they are a lot better
Repainting Orks not sure how many points yet
Warriors of Chaos shelved until further notice
The only reason to take chosen over warriors would be if you was running a warshrine to give them another buff. Thanks to favour of the gods you can try and stack two awesome bonuses and end up with +2T if your lucky Even better, mark them tzeentch and try and get a 12 for a 3+ ward and stubborn, with favour its doable. With two shrines they turn into a mini deathstar, but then again you could do the same to a chaoslord on dragon and try for a T8 dragon, bring on the win.
The man of tomorrow is judged by his battle today.
Good grief, if I ever play you and that happens, I just hope I get exactly the same result. Then our dragons will duke it out, Broadway style. I'll bring the entire soundtrack to Meet Me In Saint Louis just in case!

That being said, I take great lengths to avoid chosen because you can never predict what the result of the roll on the table will be, and because they are only slightly better than chaos warriors (WS 6 and get to roll on the table) and cost 3 points more per model.
