With the 8th edition rumours evolving each day into a more precise vision of what 8th ed will really be, I came to a conclusion : WoC are gonna rock ! They will definitely become a top 3 army. Here's why.
-Initiative of 5 on WoC means one of their 2 weakness is gone. Now, we strike before most opponent even if charged. Yes, removing casualties from the back hurts us, but are ws3 str3 really gonna hurt us back ? This rule hurt them more than it hurts us !
-Random charge movement makes our second weakness burst. We can now reach everyone !
-WoC *are better* than many elites other armies have, and with the new 25% min on core, we'll face 10-15% less elites in army composition, while on our side we can add our core % to our elite %.
-Magic phase is all about casting 1-2 great spells, which as always been our main objective (thinking about gate). We could even choose our spells, I smell Demon Princes popularity go up !
-You need ranks to negate ranks. Don't we have a nice fast cav punching at str 5 for 15 points a head ? 150, second turn flanks charge with 10 str5 and 5 str 3 ? Yes plz !
- We got a wide range of monstrous creatures which will benefits from all those silly new rules.
Really, 8th ed is WoC's edition IMO. We simply have an answer for everything !
I'm also loving the "Hoard/Step-up" rule. 10 model wide unit fights in THREE ranks! Can you say hello 30+ Marauder block with flails. We will have no problem filling our core requirements. We're gonna see big infantry blocks come back and I can't wait.
The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumour that models with a 3+ or better save can't march, apart from brets and dwarfs. Dunno if there's any truth in this rumour or if it has been squashed already
by my reasoning, even if 3+ armour save blocks can't march, WOC will still be an extremely effective footslogger army, a good general will be able to just deploy his hellcannons on a hill and then do a good old fashioned gun line, and then when they hit us, we have (can't remember right now, but I think this is right.) the highest initiative on a core unit in the game. 18 strong blocks of Chaos Warriors will be an extremely good choice, and a nasty one when we hit them, especially with halberds but I doubt that the 3+ save rule will come into effect, just doesn't seem to fit.
To Sleep Tzeentch shall come for us all in the end.
Perchance to Dream To change the living, to the dead.
the marching rumour has been debunked as people have seen demo games and such, so all our lovely chaos warriors and chaos knights can still march move! have to say that was one of the more silly rumours.
One of the main rumours i like the sound of is frenzy, now we can actually restrain from charging off and thus is actually useful on fast cav, im thinking 6x2 18 strength 5 attacks + 6 S3.
Chaos warriors really are going to be nuts this edition, I plan on using mine in blocks of 18 with MoK an halberds, yes i think i will have 25 Ws5 S5 attacks please
I think the shaggoth could be a interesting choice, D6 ASL S6 crush attacks + all its S8 attacks, terror tests taking after you reach combat (so i nice chance of actually catching and destroying them!).
i like the look of magic. rolling 2D6 for the power dice can be very good if you are only going for 1 maxed out level 4 sorcerer. also the new method allows you to cast bigger spells easier.
Has anyone given any thought to how Vilitch the Curseling will work under 8Ed? You can get up to 12 power dice that go into one pool and may be used on any caster. Imagine filtering 12 dice through Vilitch. Any failure to dispel turns those dispel dice into additional power dice for Vilitch. It a feasible to have a magic phase where Vilitch gets off all 6 spells (although casting both Call to Glory and Pandemonium is pointless, unless the rumor about remains in play is true).
Seems to me that he will be the #1 Go-To guy of the WoC lords.
