Hey guys what do you reckon is the optimum unit size for Chos Warriors - I have 34 and was going to divide them into 3 units (12, 12 and 10) -- Does this make sense or would it be better to have fewer and bigger units?
Also, what frontage do you have? I have thinking of having a wide front rank of 5 or 6 because I wasnt going for a rank bonus anyway .. what do you think? If it makes a difference playing against a fighty Beastmen army with a heap of minotaurs/gors and ungors -- no centigors or anything too quick- and not much magic either... Im taking a full on magic heavy army and have fingers crossed for a gateway!
I dont know how that cyclops symbol got there hah - I meant to say, 12, 12 and 10
I run my warriors in 6x2 blocks. It always seems to throw off my regulars who play DE and HE. 12 (13 w/ champ, 19 on charge) S4 attacks seems to work pretty well against fragile elves. Especially HE when I'm just trying to get some retaliatory strikes in from the front rank. I usually run shields, since I have a tendency to get charged due to their low Mv.
Most games i go for units of 12 with 6 in each rank. Warriors really work on kills to win their combat, not ranks. Plus they're too expensive to build up into big ranked units. Although at 3k a unit of 18 warriors isn't so expensive and is one hell of a nasty prospect.
If im honest i have always had more success with units of 15, people go on about needing that extra front but you not going to score two kills with one guys, +1 combat res is better, 3x5, smaller frontage, if they have frezy then maybe, slap down a warbanner and your laughing!
This is true but you're paying for 3 extra Warriors to get that +1 Combat Res. Thats almost 60pts which is a Warbanner and a Mark.
Plus if you take 1 Casualty your bonus is gone and you've wasted 4 Warriors. Unless you reform.
what i would actually do i take them 5x3 and add warbanner, remember your not just paying and extra 3 for + 1 combat res but also a increased chance of outnumber and a increased chance of getting across the board with more static combat res. The other bonus us actually the smaller frontage which makes deployment on smaller boards much easier.
Good points cheers for that
Why are you getting bonus attacks on the charge? This isn't 40k.I run my warriors in 6x2 blocks. It always seems to throw off my regulars who play DE and HE. 12 (13 w/ champ, 19 on charge)
As to the OP, I run them at 6x2 or 6x3 in a large game sometimes. Chaos Warriors are equipped and costed to do get their CR through kills, not static. And considering the +1CR for outnumbering is disappearing in 8th(and the max total static is hence being reduced to 4) there is even more reason for them to form up wide by shallow.
Nevermore Chapter: 6200 pts; 97/49/11; Longest Streak: 9 Wins/4 Losses; Nearing Completion
In 8th i will certainly run mine 6x3 however in 7th the advantage isnt that great, in 7th its only +2 attacks, considering average dice rolls are +2 attacks likely to score more a rank?, in 8th with MoK however we are talking about a totally different kettle of ish, +4 attacks (5 with additional hand weapon).
