    Magic shut down

Can we reliably shut down the opponents Magic Phase without any sorcerers?
What items do we have at our disposal, how do we use them and which ones are worthwhile?

You mean other than killing them?

Black Tongue is about it really. Some Magic resitance and a Hell cannon if you're feeling lucky/unlucky are about all we have.

Not to mention the myriad generic items in the MBRB which add to our magic defence, or turn our enemy spellcasters into frogs...ehehehe.

Black tongue is actually pretty bad in this new edition. It is pretty hard to actually fail to cast a spell with how the magic system works now. Maybe if their best is a level 2, but if that is the best then they wont be having a great magic phase anyways.

I don't really think so. One failed casting will easily earn Tongue it's points back. It will work as a deterrent I think. It will force the opponent to spend more dice than actually needed just to make sure the spell goes off. that will drain his dice pool quickly.

You would be surprised. Played 2 games both sides with level 4s and a few level 2s on their side. Neither game did not only my opponents but myself fail to cast a spell once.

It's a deterrent if anything. If your opponent is going for the big bomb spells (Final Transmutation, Purple Sun, Dwellers) then they have 2 ways to miscast if you take black tongue. By rolling multiple 6's, or not getting the spell off in the first place.

Exalteds are ok stock and don't need magic items to be immune to killing blow, take hits, and dish them back. So black tongue is always going to be an option. Even on a sorcerer, but I think if you run a single sorc then Infernal Puppet is a better single option. Both will be devastating.

All it takes is that unlucky roll that anyone can do. And WHAM he's hit with a miscast that instantly kill his level 4 wizard and blows up the unit of elite bodyguards he's in.
