So, has anyone given any thought on how to beat a steamtank now? Lore of metal is pretty useless now that they've removed all str-values from that lores spells, hence they won't work on the Stank anymore. Even a lord with a potion of str. will need 6's to wound the beast.
Tarpit it with something you can afford to lose, like Marauders, if you happen to have units like that. Not really much else unless you run a character with an armor denying weapon or something like that. It's pretty much built to ruin armored and elite units which is almost all of the Chaos army.
Some people are pointing out that the exact special rules for the steamtank that they provided in the faq left out the immunity to none str spells. Might mean lore of metal can chew it up. But don't forget we don't even have access to that lore anyways.
I'd take a flier and hit it with blood curdling roar a few times. Drop 4 wounds off of it and then ignore it.
If you know you will be fighting one and can tailor your list, then just bring the weapon that will reduce it to str2 t2 and charge a khorne with it straight at the thing.

Or, if you can get it off, take it down to S2 T2, then hit it with Curse of the Leper, if his magic isn't that strong the Stank is dead by the second turn.

I don't know if this helps any, but with the new rules a roll of "6" wounds anything... I haven't done the math, but it "may" be possible (though unlikely) for any large unit to kill a steam tank provided you roll a truckload of 6's to wound.
Well, 6's do wound it now. And we do have access to attacks that permit no armor save. Plus, like someone said, if something like Buboes now works on it, then that's a big boon.
And remember, many of the new spells are very potent. One spell augments a units strength to match its leadership, so a LD 10 lord could grant a unit Str 10.
We have probly one of the better things in the game to counter the steam tank...
Now laugh at the guys face for every 6 you roll to wound on him.
I would love the fluff for when the Bloodcurdling Roar defeats the Steamtank.
A Chaos Lord screams so hard and loud so that the bolts, screws and rivets shake loose from their holes and nuts. The Steamtank justs falls apart, leaving the pilot sitting naked under the open skies in the middle of a giant pile of metal scrap with the levers and steering wheel in hand, horror in his eyes as the marauders rush towards him.

Do spells like Pit of Shades work on it now then?
Heh, I had a unit of 12 Warriors with 30 str 10 Attacks in my Last game. Steam tank? Pah. A Giant with thrump with Club can give it a good Krumpin too.
No spells affect it in any way unless it has a Strength value, so just Magic Missiles. Giant is a decent option but most Chaos armies I've seen don't use one and the horrible randomness! :p
