Are any of these beasts viable now?
Dragon is nasty, save his breath attacks for combat and watch him murder him some guys.
I play HE in addition to WOC so I always wanted to run a big might chaos lord on Dragon ... Any good setup for running a dragon? Or just naked setup
I highly doubt you could go wrong with any build when a chaos lord is sitting on top of a dragon. Even the wizard hat would make him good.
I'd take defensive stuff. Maybe tzeentch with the 4+ ward then a good weapon like the runesword or axe of khorne. Gifts can be things like the soporific musk to make people pay for fleeing from combat, or the stream of corruption. Nothing says yummy like a chaos dragon with a guy on top with 6 str 6 attacks himself and 3 breath weapons between them.
The only drawback is that the percentages for Lords require you to play a large game to get one.
But if you can, dragons are even more choppy now. Especially if you save the breath weapons for combat. That gives you the Lord's attacks, the dragon's attacks, 2d6 breath weapon hits, and then Thunderstomp. A silly amount of carnage.

I'm definitely going to run my Dragon Lord now that Thunderstomp has been added. The downside is that with cannons being so good now its going to be even harder to get him into position. I guess it balances out.
And don't forget his General bonus: 18inch ld instead of the 12. As he is mounted on a large target.
Cannons might be better, but how many armies can field them?
Dragons are sooo sweet to use. There will be a lot of HE players that buy the new starter box for the cool new models. Now I will field my Dragon to take on their pesky winged lizard !!!
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
manticores have never been my favorite, and that hasnt changed now that dragons have became better...
stream of corruption is a bit overkill in my opinion, fun.. but too much.. i'd just go for one breath attack in one combat, the other in another..
the downside really is that you cant fit them in 2000 points, not even naked and that really sucks.
but yes, they're still viable, more than ever before
watch out for stuff that makes them not able to march, could get nasty
