I was rereading the rules for eye of the gods the other day, trying to find a way to make it more prominent in my games. (excluding the usual way of doing it i.e chosen, war shrines and trolls) And I never realised that you don't have to be in close combat to roll on the table when you kill large targets! (doh)
Enter the lore of death. As long as your opponent has Large targets in his army you will be rolling on that table in no time!
Initially I thought the lore of death was a bit mono-dimensional good at killing characters and for purple sun. But those spells also work wonders against warmachines, large targets and monsters.
The lore also comes with some nice hexes, soulblight has great potential considering it can affect all enemy models withing 24" of the caster, it makes chaos warriors even tougher/killier then they already are, also has good synergy with the lore of fire, fireball wounding on 2+ anyone? Doom and darkness is great for nullifying steadfast. As for the fear/terror spell it is surprisingly more effective then one would think considering that the enemy standard bearer will most likely have been killed off by the other spells in the lore.
So recently I have been running this build:
Sorcerer lvl2 (lore of death)
-FoG (only when not running chosen)
-Shrieking blade (fear+Doom and darkness is very effective, also means you can re-roll any 10s on the EoTG, and magical attacks are almost never a bad thing)

the sorcer can not have the shield for one its in the errata FAQ on GW site but the rest looks good no real experaince with WoC though im normally DE so i dont even get basic armour for my casters you lucky Son of a gun
Seems kind of pointless to build for EotG rolls when almost all the buffs are so minor. If you like Death take it but I don't see sniping Large Targets as a big plus myself.

@The Prince of Excess: Yeah it was more as a extra bonus, when taking the lore of death.
@draghkar: In the old faq it said we could take shields, in the new faq it doesn't because in the BRB it says that wizards that come with armour can be given magic armour/shields. It also says this in the WoC army book on page 106.
As for where you read they couldn't take magic shields it was probably the GW/white dwarf article about EoTG on the GW website, which says sorcerers can't take shields, however as we all know GW/whitedwarf articles always have mistakes in them concerning rules! That why we don't base rules of them. They had a recent article that claimed if you charged an enemy unit in the flank it denied them steadfast...
See what I mean? xD
I'm not sure that I would make a sorcerer strictly for taking out Large Targets... Some people I play against don't even use them. Of course if you play against the same guys each week, and they always bring Stegodons/Hydras/Steam Tanks, then I guess it would make more sense...
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
@ChaosWarrior2010: The sorcerers main purpose is to snipe characters and warmachines. As for giving him eye of the gods, well that's just for an added bonus when you come up against things like doomwheels, screamingbells, warshrines, dragons, abominations, steam tanks and so on.
Eye of the gods is not always amazing but it's free, taking out a doomwheel and giving the tzeentch unit you are with MR3 or stubborn, is never a bad thing. Making a character tougher/more killy isn't bad either.
I'll admit I probably only fight large targets in half my games. But when I'm not taking chosen, I can't see anything bad about giving this sorcerer favour of the gods. As for his other equipment it's mainly for keeping him alive, the sword has a nice dual purpose, in that making your opponent take a leadership test every round of combat will never be detrimental to you, becomes evil with doom and darkness and as an added bonus removes one of the worst results from the EoTG table.
Not to mention it's very fluffy!
yeah i found it there last night but was to tired to post and yeah i DO know just howoften GW staff egt it wrong in WD so cool will be fun to see some casters with shields
