The title says it all.. What units and characters should I include to make a competitive tzeentch army (1500-2000 pts)??
Whatever you want it to be. Any infantry with shields and MoT are awesome and its great for most other things as well. You pay less for equivalent ward saves so spend points on extra attacks (magic weapons, banner of rage, etc). Tzeentch pretty much can't be overdone.
"She worked her toes into the sand, feeling the tiny delicious pain of the friction of tiny chips of silicon against the tender flesh between her toes. That's life. It hurts, it's dirty, and it feels very, very good." -Orson Scott Card
lord with tallisman of preservation
Blasted Standard on a unit of 10 knights or big unit of chosen
i would but my BSB with the banner of rage in a unit of 17 chosen with extra handweapon
if u go 6 wide, 3 deep thats 30 attacks + ur hero with a 4+ ward against shooting and 6 warriors at the back to soak up anything that get threw
chomp chomp chomp chomp
but for and 550 points
also the warshrine is a must
lvl 4 sorcerer with skull (+6 to cast and dispell is insane), talisman of preservation and charmed shield but again he is about 400 points once u put him on a disk (which u shld and have him just fly away from the enemy)
lvl 1 with infernal puppet
dont worry about the dispel scroll as u shld be abale to dispell about anything apart from irrisitable force in wich cast a dispell scroll in no use and u have ur puppet
and if u take chosen put the book of secrets on ur champion
then take 5 knights and 2 unit of marauders
try to get the marauders in units of 40 and put GW on them NOT shields
if u have any points maybe some dogs or even a hell cannon if u have enough
Just dont put your banner of rage with any footslogger MoT unit that you are hoping to have the 5+ ward save, as you lose the parry bonus with frenzy. Best saved for your knights, where it has no effect.Any infantry with shields and MoT are awesome and its great for most other things as well. You pay less for equivalent ward saves so spend points on extra attacks (magic weapons, banner of rage, etc).
Mono-tzeentch is pretty good on the ground, but not so hot in the character department. Tzeentch Warriors with HW&S are amazingly tough and dependable, possibly the most solid core choice in the entire game. They lack the killing capacity of warriors with Halberds or Mark of Khorne, but they can stand up to a beating. The same is true of Marauders with HW&S+MoT, although they stand up to a proportionately smaller beating. Tzeentch Warriors can also take Halberds with their shields, which is equivalent to most people carrying a HW&S, with the exception that our people are S5
Characters are a little iffy. Tzeentch has never been a favorite of mine for magic. The +1 to cast is really nice, but we don't quite need the help when we're adding our level to every attempt. I prefer to go with Nurgle and Shadow for my casters, in hopes of getting a Miasma/Curse combo off and killing a whole regiment outright. This is more common than killing someone outright with Gateway, and more useful as well. Obviously, Tzeentch doesn't do much for combat-characters unless you want to go for a crazy wardsave.
Of course, what they look like is blue and purple and gold, so if you want to run Non-tzeentch characters in the army, just go unmarked and keep their scheme the same.
There is nothing wrong with Tzeentch Exalted Champions or lords. They are the most durable characters in the game (toughness 5, potential 3+ ward, ETC) and still retain some serious damage output. Remember that the only difference inbetween a Khorne lord and a Tzeentch lord is 1 attack and the ability to screw you over on a failed leadership.
It would look very blue and gold.
