Welcome to Librarium Online!
I was wondering which mark would be best in general for 2 units of 5 knights for games around 2000-2500 points. Tzeentch is my favorite mark in 8th Ed but it seems so lackluster on knights since by itself it's only a 6+ and mounted models don't get the parry save so you can't get a 1+/5+.
Khorne was also nerfed and if I want frenzied cav I have plenty of cruise missiles and Slaanesh isn't good for much at all. Nurgle is still decent but it's still 30 points and I'm also concerned about magic to make sure they get to their target.
If I only ran 1 unit of Tzeentch knights I'd combo them with Blasted Standard/Collar of Khorne to give me those wards as I cross the table. But with 2 units and points sometimes at a premium, I'm really thinking of just sending them unmarked.
I run a Khorne themed army and therefore will always have Khorne Knights.
When concerned about you Knights charging off into a unit you would rather they didn't I simply run a unit of 5 warhounds in front of them to prevent this.
Bonus' whilst im not sure they provide cover in shooting to Knights, they can often draw out an enemy. Select to flee the charge with warhounds and with Khorne Knights +Will of Chaos its unlikley you will fail a LD 8 test or 9 if you run them with a Lord like me. Allowing you to charge the enemies Failed charge next turn.
Admitedly as it is not sooo vital you always charge first due to Initative now a days I suppose it depends what you want to achieve.
Hope that helps in respect to Khorne.
16 S5 (Ensorc weps) Attacks + 5/*10 S4 Attacks (Steeds) = Yummie
*+Quick off topic here actually+
Does the Frenzy rule +1 attack also apply to the Mount/barbed Steed?
If I put a mark on my knights it is usually Khorne. I am not sure what you are referring to when you say that this mark has been "nerfed". if you have a 5 knight unit with full command you will get the 16 str 5 attacks that Lord V mentioned, but the horses are not subject to frenzy. Still very killy in my opinion.
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
The heavy Khorne thing wasn't quite what I was thinking of playing but I guess I could try a Khorne-based cav army as one of my lists. It *is* a lot of attacks and you already have S5 built in.
I already use dogs to screen for cruise missiles but a few more won't hurt. Also FYI, you don't even have to test for panic if dogs flee through Khorne units since frenzy grants immune to psychology, including panic. Nice bonus there.
And to answer your question: No the mount does not get frenzy from MoK anymore. BRB, bottom of Page 82. That's why I mentioned that MoK wasn't as good as it used to be for knights.
Khorne is always good, but if you run 2 they could make 1 of them Tzeentch and give them Blasted Standard..
That's a 4+ ward save against shooting attacks.
Alternately you could keep them undivided for a "cheap" hammer unit.
Instead of giving them MOK, you could give them the Banner of Rage, then the steeds have frenzy too!
I usualy run my Knights with Mark of Nugle + Rage banner.
I like Nugle against esp. bolt throwers - where we wouldent get an armor save. Also good against skinks, so they would sometimes require 7+ to hit. So their poison wont work.
But running them without a mark at all is certainly viable aswell. Especially if you then save some points and perhaps run another groups of knigts in additon.
But if i only run one group, i like to give them a little buff.
Tzeentch + Basted standard is awsome too though. But i use that elsewhere in my army.
MoT + Blasted + MR2 somewhere in the unit. 1+ armor, 6+ ward, 4+ ward vs shooting and magic. Knights are already killy enough. Take 12. Buff with shrines. Eat things. Never die.
Fear me, mortals, for I am The Anointed, The Favored Son of Chaos, The Scourge of the World. The armies of the Gods rally behind me, and it is by My Will and by My Sword that your weakling nations shall fall. - Archaon, The Everchosen, Lord of the End Times
Agree 100% with that setup Brock.
I usually take mine with MoT + Blasted Standard + BSB with the Banner of Rage added onto the unit
