With the introduction of the new common Magic banners I was wondering what the community is taking in what circumstances.
I'm building army lists and on reaching my Core units of Warriors I'm wondering what, if any, banners to give the unit.
Banner of Rage is always awesome but that's going on my Knights. Between War Banners, Rapturous Standards, Razor Banners, etc. I'm quite lost on what is most effective.
Warbanner is good for any regiment that you want to have sticking around for a bit. Good for Warriors, good for another regiment of Knights, good for anything.
Rapturous Standard is pretty wasteful, since the thing only works 1/36 of the time that you want it to.
Razor Banner is a good one for WoC. Considering that most of our guys are knocking you down -1Sv, the Razor is going to drop them by 2, and that means that Light Armor and a Shield is going to to scream in agony. Even Heavy Armor is toast. Sticking in onto a regiment with Halberds is just sickening, as you're hitting them for a -3, and dropping everything except another Warrior's armor to 0. Characters love it even more of course.
Blasted Standard + MoT = 4+ wardsave against shooting. Pretty nice on your knights, or chosen.
Doom Totem + Hellcannon Shot = Panic check at -2 LD, so that's nice. Also helps you break enemy regiments, even when they're stubborn, because it drops your Ld value by -1.
Wailing Banner + Chosen w/ Favor of Gods = potentially guarantees you any result that you'd like from Eye of the Gods. This is disputable because you are ultimately using the Favor to move the result to a re-rollable one. But yes, some people are using this to give their Chosen a 3+ wardsave (4+, with additional +1 from MoT)
Lichebone Pennant + MoT = 5+ wardsave against spells, obviously good for some things, better for others.
Standard of Discipline can be a bear because it rules out using the general's leadership. If you're using a Sorcerer Lord for your general though, this banner can really help our mediocre leadership values.
Rampagers is pretty good, letting you reroll the charge distance. I've used this with Frenzy models, since it can either help you make that charge, or slow you down and keep you from impacting. You're still going to take the hit (if you stumble infront of a regiment) but you can atleast get a good phase of magic missiles or a Hellcannon blast in there before they charge you.
The other banners are too pricey or too situational to be much good.
Not really sure why I have not considered adding in the Razor Banner before now "-3 to AS" = Yummie!
Blasted standard is a MUST against shooty armies.
Doom Totem can be helpful for making enemies run for their lives, especially used with Hellcannon or Diabloic Splendor.

I thought the odds for the rapturous standard was 11/36? As you can have (1,1) (2,1) (3,1) (4,1) (5,1) (6,1) (2,2) (3,3) (4,4) (5,5) (6,6)
And that numbers are the necessaries if you go to double 1 to hold. If you don't go to double 1 the chance increases.
Rangers standard on horsemen and knights is good.
"The more choices you force the opponent to make, the better the chance for you to capitalize on his mistakes"
