I've been sitting on some models for a while and I finally got to play and its freaking awesome. WoC are amazing, I haven't won a game yet but every time was close and I love my units more and more.
As much as I know it wont be like tourney ready or anything I would rather play an all Armored warhost, so I have stuck to warriors, chose and knights. What I have to far is
Warriors of Chaos x35 (Extra five I run as Chosen. They were the left overs from my Warrior boxes.)
Knights of Chaos x10
Hellcannon x1 (Scratchbuilt)
Sorcerer on foot x1 (Potential to ride a disk if i get more greenstuff.)
Exalted Hero/Chaos Lord on foot x1
Thats what I have to work with for now.
Any suggestions would be awesome. I have a game v dark elves, the other player has a small force like mine and we would like ti play 2k, but I am not really sure what a comfortable point level for what I have is.
Well, there are a lot of threads in the WoC forum for players starting the army, some of which discuss the viability of full plate armies (the thread "warriors, knights, warshrines, why take anything else" is a good one) and also a thread up top about experiences which is very useful. I would link you to them, but I'm replying from my phone.
Plate armies are fine, and that looks a lot like the model list that I use in my competitive games. I'd look to run this kind of set up:
2 units 15 warriors, full command, and either HW&S + MoT, or Halberd + MoK
10 Chosen, full command, favor of the gods, hw&s or halberd, mark of your choice
Knights can be fielded in a single regiment or split. For a single regiment I would consider the Blasted Standard and MoT, and use it to escort a mounted character.
Split your hounds as either use them as screens, or to tie up enemy shooters for a turn.
Leave the WarShrine unmarked. It saves points.
Run your sorcerer as Lore of Shadows, at L4 as a lord. Field your other hero as either a lord or hero, and make him lethal.
Your top priority is to acquire a Battle Standard Bearer for your army- they're incredibly important now.
This collection would be comfortable at games between 2-3k points. It's really not too tough to play at that level, and with a plate army like yours, it actually let's you field an army, rather than trying to cram units into a list. Good luck, and let us know what's stealing all your wins.
Awesome thank you, I just started reading through a couple of those threads. They were a ton of help. I will be sure to let you know how my games go today at this point level. And for viewing pleasure my scratch built hellcannon.
Cheap plastic card bus passes for the side, frame built from spru chunks and cannon is a toilet paper tube reinforced with spru and greenstuffed
Had my game v. Dark Elves today. It was quite rough.
He didn't field any range and had two sorcerers, one with lore of metal (More on that later) and the other had lore of death. It was a 2k game.
Some lvl 4 Sorcerer on a flying mount.
A lvl 2 sorcerer on cold one
a 10-12 man strong cold one knight unit
2 huge blocks of spearmen
corsairs I think they are called.
Khorne Lord on Juggy
lvl 2 Sorc of tzeentch
15 man block of MoT Warriors x2
Warshrine of Tzeentch
2 squads of 5 dogs
5 man group of knights
What i learned
Lore of Metal This SUCKS SO HARD. On turn one i lost all of my knights and half of my sorcerers MoT Squad. Throughout the game the lore hurt me time and time again. I don't see much way around it outside of getting into CC faster.
Warshrines Pretty much the MVP of my game. It held an entire unit of Corsairs for pretty much four turns after it managed to give a block of my warriors the 12 eye of the gods gift. The thing is a total monster in CC and I was pleased at every turn with it.
The pendant of your high strength attacks dont work. ...It sucks... nuff said.
Dark Elves have some seriously nasty stuff out there, nasty magic, masty monsters and some slightly good combat troops. Just remember that you have them in combat. You really really have them in combat so do just that. Take lots of Fast units to distract him and give your slow powerhouses Items to keep them alive and you should be fine. All you need to do is get there in strength and it's the end of them.
