Welcome to Librarium Online!
So I finally gave in to the temptation, and after years of highelf-ism converted to the dark gods (incidentally, a good way to get into eighth edition). As far as Models go, I've got Archaon, A slaanesh on a boobsnake, and two battalion boxes, so here is what I came up with, after reading through eighth edition rules and the army book, without any practical experience with either, and mainly selfinserted fluff in mind - feedback and suggestions appreciated and wanted
General - MoT, Shield, Acid Ichor, Demonic Mount, Chaos Runesword, Armor of Morrslieb, Necrotic Phylactery - 390 points, goes into the knights
Exalted Hero - MoS, Halberd, BsB, Collar of Khorne, Soporific Musk, Boobsnake
- 219, also goes into the knights (I'm aware that the collar is fluff-fail, but I need the Mr :/ )
Exalted Hero - Mot, Shield, Third Eye of Tzeentch, Book of Secrets, Dispel Scroll
-200, goes into barbarians, pretty much all my magic (going to build the model from a leftover warrior)
21 Warriors of Chaos ??? / Standard / Musician / MoT / The banner that gives Mr1
-389 points Heavy infantry unit in the field - I'm just not sure what weapons to give them - if I interpret the support attack rules right, halberds should be superior to AHW, so it's halberds or sword and board.
20 Babarians, MoK, Flails
-130 points, cruise missile
19 Babarians, MoT, Shields, light armor
-134, ablative hitpoints / miscast victims for the sorcerer
-42 Fastcavalry harassment
10 Chaosknights, MoT, Musician, Standard
-450 points, pretty much a deathstar with two mounted heroes in it - thought about giving them the frenzy banner, but I have no Idea where to get the points from.
- 1996 points (390 Lord, 419 heroes, 737 core, so all legal)
So there you go, tips, feedback and all that would be greatly appreciated, though I'd like to keep my army as nurgle and khorne-free as possible
Ah, my bad, thread didn't go where it was supposed to go, moving it would also be appreciated
I had anticipated the hero miscasting, that's why I gave him 19 hitpoints - making those barbarians more, is primarily a problem of lacking models, not points, though?
How well do chaos warriors work in smaller numbers, with the game being so horde-happy now? (Could technically field a block of 12 and one of 11, though it gets more expensive). Also, I get that Chaoswarriors with bigger bases won't want to be 7 wide, but how wide to field the flail-marauders?
marauders should be on same bases as warriors and 7 wide is fine, but I field my guys 6 wide.
Hordes for me are turning into a gimmick that rarely works. You can dish out a ton of attacks, but usually a horde has crappy attacks. I've never lost to a horde yet and sometimes my chaos knights go crazy on them and kill 20+ models.
If it were me I would drop a unit of dogs, then use the points to divide the knights into two units, mark one khorne with a blasted banner and give the other a rage banner and mark them nurgle. The tzeentch mark is arguably less useful on knights without a parry). It's seriously amazing what one unit of 5 knights with 3 attacks (not including horses) each can do. Like Pinkus said, I've had several games where a unit of 5 knights absolutely chewed up a horde in a single turn.
The 10 strong knights are dirty, but in my opinion a unit like knights is wasted when you are giving up attacks in the second rank. Not to mention, my opponents very rarely can deal with two seperate units, they have to decide to either throw limited resources at both (and knights are resilient enough to usually get in with few casualties if any) or throw everything at one at the expense of ignoring the other (leaving a completely fresh, full strength murder machine and an otherwise intact infantry army behind them), both scenarios that are favorable really.
As for your question on warriors, I usually run two units of 18. In my experience 18 seems to be the number that is just about perfect. That allows for casualties if needed, but isn't a *horrible* point sink. I have to say though, Warriors really are amazing dude. Just the other knight I was facing Empire gunline (ugh), and one of my Khorne halbadier units was shot all to hell. I managed to get a charge off into a unit of swordsmen with my unit only 4 strong. They absolutely cut them to shreds. In fact right after that my opponet decided to be cute and run his outriders up to my lone remaining warrior. To his horror, the khorney bastard charged, got in with them and killed three of his horses before he knew what was happening. That model was then promoted to Exalted Champion status and is in the que for a repaint. Don't underestimate the sheer killiness of the Chaos Warrior. They are 110% badass.
Anway, just a few thoughts for ya.

Lord Busey see's all.
100% agree with everything he said. I had 5 warriors and a bsb make it across the table to hit 35 plaguebarers. After a few round a shaggoth got into the flank of the plaguebarers. I ended up killing them to a man with 3 warriors left.
They're just that dirty.
Splitting the knights up, would mean I can't have the general and the bsb in the same unit though, (thus no mr for the general).
Also: Lances on Knights, yay or nay? (Not giving lances to the knights would leave me with the option to build a second warrior unit with halberds, running 12 / 12 instead of a single 18 man block with sword and board)
Leave the lances at home.
