So I'm thinking of running this guy:
Lord - 360
+4 Ward -
Charmed Shield -
Stream of Corruption-
I have the idea that with flying movement, and a 2+/3++, he can basically fly around on his own and kill the hell out of things. With WS9, he can take on whole WS4 regiments by himself and just butcher them. Charmed shield should protect him from cannon fire until he gets into combat (plus it's so cheap!).
Has anyone run a flying MoT Lord before? Got any anecdotes from the experience? Advice on how to properly use him?
Have you seen THIS (Need tips on Sorc on Disc) thread?
Anyways- people will draw out the Charmed Shield with cheap stuff like Longbows before they fire their cannons. Stream of Corruption only wounds on a 6.
I was up against a Sorc Lord on a disc and an Exalted BSB on a disc in my last tournament, and they hit my Knights one on each flank. I didn't expect them to win combat, but they did, and they broke my knights. I prefer to run my guys in regiments though, so that they are safe from spells (Lore of Metal will wound you on a 2+ with no saves allowed) and able to lend their support to my guys when they're chopping through the lines.
Fortunately, we can still join infantry regiments, so you might be able to get away with this simply by having a regiment to "babysit" him, and using the flying move to get to any targets of opportunity. For example, my friend has a habit of bailing characters out behind his regiments just before I charge. A flier would be able to declare a charge against those guys, then the regiment could charge as normal.
So I could have the infantry walk him across, then use the fly move to hit something? Interesting. I was actually thinking of just flying him alone, since he'd only be exposed to 1 round of shooting before he made combat. As for the cheap shooting, I thought of that but 1) at 5 pts for the charmed shield, it's cheaper than a regular shield so why not, and 2) If he eats up a full regiment worth of shooting then that's pretty sweet. With a 3++ he's still got a better than half shot of laughing off a cannon ball without the shield. Pretty decent. With the WS and saves, I think he could probably hold up an entire regiment of legit combat troops until the warriors made it in, or blend a shooty regiment. I'll playtest it and let y'all know.
The only problem with that is that the disc has Movement 1, and the can't make fly moves when they've joined a non-flying unit.. so it'll be a slow trot. I've not played a lot against cannons yet, but IMO try to stay hidden the best you can, or take the Crimson Armor of Dargan and you won't have to worry about cannons in the same way anymore.
