I've been searching the games workshop site for a barded chaos steed for my exalted hero but i can't find one anywhere. i can only find demonic mounts. are the models the same thing ie. i buy an exalted hero on a demonic mount and use it as an exalted hero on a barded chaos steed? if not where can i find a barded chaos steed?
You could always buy the regular horses with barding that the empire use and convert them to have horns and what not on them. I did this for two characters and it worked out pretty good.
In the bitz section onder mounts, you have Armoured Horses. Those are the horses used for the old chaos knights.
I just bought an extra box of Chaos Knights - they are not that expensive - and used some of the horses for my characters and the lances for my halberdiers and made a few extra knights with the rest. Good deal!
Warhammer Fantasy: Warriors of Chaos, High Elves
Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
Furrie: i can't see any mounts under bitz on the warhammer site, could you please link it? also even if i got horses from chaos knights or empire, wouldn't i have to buy a exalted hero who is already mounted and swap mounts because unmounted exalted heroes wqon't fit on a mount
There hasn't been a bog standard Hero on Chaos steed since, er 5th Edition? You can just use the Lord on Daemon Steed as a Hero on Barded, just rebase him on a Cavalry base. Otherwise just use a Chaos Knight. Give him a head swap, a cape, some funky sword or what have you to make him look different and you're done!
Be warned about using Empire horses. They are about half the size of a Chaos Knight. If you put your that horse in a Knight unit it will look rather stupid.
Yeah, the new Knights are so unbelievably huge that any other normal horse will look like a mule in comparison.
A converted Chaos Knight is therefore the best option in my opinion. The Lord on Daemonic mount is really cool as well, but the mount is so static compared to the Knight mounts, so might look strange in a unit together, but thats perhabs just me...
If you do go for the converted knight, try to stay clear of too many metal bits on the upper part of the model, as it will probably fall over really easy with the very tall and light plastic steed - even if you weigh the base down. Mutations from the Spawn box could be an idea, unless you're not a fan of the mutated look =)
Edit: Argh, now you made me want to make a new Chaos Lord instead of painting my poor High Elves (shakes fist).
If you have some Marauder Horsemen horses, they are the same or similar size to the Chaos Knight horses. You can mix and match to find what suits you. Even clipping and gluing the plastic would work.
A simple fix is use the M. H. Horse heads and necks on the bodies of the knight horses. Bam. problem solved.
Going even further - taking a Maraduer horse and fitting barding from an EMpire horse (clip the barding from teh Empire horse, and faile it so it fits the EMpier horse body) or even using Bretonnian Steeds, or finally the metal Blood Dragon Steeds (thoigh that will cost almost as much as simply buying a Chaos Knight box).
Final optio is to bits order a spare plastic Chaos Knight steed from a bitz warehouse or lobay/ebay
