Hey guys, I'm in the middle of creating a horde army for my WOC.
I was browsing around on LO and Warseer for some tips and I noticed that someone made this tip...
"For dealing with such shock troops and elites there is a second effective warrior formation which concentrates on being an anvil rather than being a blender (although it still hits pretty damn hard). This is the 5 wide Tzeentch warriors with shields unit with a 3+ armour save and 5+ ward save. "
Now I understand the 3+ armor save, but isn't the ward save for the LoZ simply just a 6+?
Correct me if I'm wrong as I've scoured over my rule book a few times.
6+ Ward save from Tzeench
then a 6+ Ward save from "sword plus shield"
Thanks for that.
So, in combat, I get my 3+ armor save- roll for that, then if I fail that, the 5+ ward? Or am I doing this wrong?
Geez it's been a while, I'm embarrassed. Just clearing this up now before I run into a game with it!
Technically, you are not combining Wardsaves, as wardsaves can never be combined. The correct explanation is that MoT specifically states that models get +1 to any existing Wardsave, or a 6+ Ward if they don't have one.
6+ for Parry saves
+1 for MoT
Just clearing up any arguments in the future. And no, our FAQ has done nothing to change this little tidbit.
Sounds good. Thanks!
So, my HE buddy won't be too happy to hear that I have a 3+ armor save (Chaos Armor +4 save, add +1 for shields), then modified ward save of +5 (MoT +6, add +1 for sword/shield ward). Woo hoo!
Bring on the pain!
Do bear in mind though that the parry save "only" works in close combat and even then, not against stomp attacks. They're still tough as hell though and many things will fail to make an impression on them
Parry doesn't work against flank attacks either. MoT is still awesome though, especially if you bring a hero with Magic Resistance items to the unit or have Blasted Banner.
A Razor Banner will chew through his armor nicely while you get all your saves too.
BTW, Lore of Shadow works wonders against High Elves - see how your friend likes Penix Guard with WS2 INI 3, or drop his Spearmen STR down to 1.
Sona si Latine loqueris.
I parried the Fellblade using a unit with this set-up, that was a good night.
