I don't really see the use of them does anyone use them? I would LOVE to make some with all my tyranid bitz and Warriors but honestly I see Warriors doing their job just as well.
Lord Borak runs them often in lists as flankers / warmachine hunters. He's got some pretty cool conversions for them, as well. Look him up, and check out some of his army lists and mini-pics.
They aren't bad. They're just ridiculously expensive. Consider that they cost 1 point less than a chosen after weapon options, they end up not cutting it. However, they give us something that not many armies can boast. Movement six infantry. Honestly I think if they can with chaos armor instead of heavy armor, I'd use some, but to me they seem like easy victory points. Specially when I can use horsemen at a fraction of the price to get about the same results and fill out my core at the same time.
Yeah I use them pretty much all the time now. My gaming list is a Warrior army and the Forsaken fit their theme pretty much spot on. They're great flanking units due to their speed and them being frenzied means they wont be running from panic. Their random attacks is a shame and I'd wish if was just 3 or 2 basic with frenzy.
I've used both Horsemen and Forsaken and I must say, I prefer Forsaken as Flanking units. Horsemen generally add up to more points than a Forsaken unit. Forsaken being T4 usually keeps them safe from other flanking untis like shades or rubbishy bowmen.
I don't disagree with anything you said, but vanguard gives horsemen a huge advantage when it comes to warmachine hunting.
I'd try a unit out, but I can never get over the fact that 12 of them are over 200 points.
Borak; sorry to steal your thunder, brother! When I think forsaken, I think Borak!!
6000 points of WoC... far less painted. My WIP.
Well that's alright. I seem to be the only one who uses them regularly.
Pinkus, this is true. Vanguard is awesome and makes Horsemen more apt as warmachine hunters. I just prefer Forsaken as they're harder to take out. Plus you have to remember only 2 Cavalry models can fight Warmachine crew. Which isn't usually a problem but Dwarves or maybe High Elves can cause Marauders a bit of grief.
I don't use units of 12 though. 200pts is way to expensive for a flanking unit. I just run units of 5 which come in at 90pts so not a great deal. A horseman unit with Slaanesh and flails is 85pts. The horsemen are faster and will get on Warmachines in turn two however they're REALLY fragile and anything so much as looks at them and they'll fall over.
This is a bad choice of words because it actually only refers to monstrous infantry, MONSTROUS cavalry, and MONSTROUS beasts. (otherwise it wouldn't make sense, as there is not a troop type called just 'beast').
This very sentence is clarified on page 7 on the BRB FAQ.
So our Marauders get to fight with 6 models =)
Actually, I was thinking of using them.
I run a marauder-free army (chaos armour anyone?). And when I finally expand my army, I want to add in at least one unit of forsaken, and possibly a spawn. Warmachines, smaller sized unit, wizards slinking around, etc.
Any tips on how to use them? Advice from Borak?
If someone helps you, rep them.
In a votewar you don't vote on a single match, you vote on the entire round. Got that?
Cannibal God: Well to be honest I use them exactly like Marauder Horsemen. They'll fill exactly the same role. Due to their speed and frenzy they can get places quick and wont be running away. Frenzy is a problem but LD8 should see you through.
I use them to harass the flanks, knock out Fast Cav like Wolf Riders and then hunt Warmachines, hell sometimes, if I have to, I use them to draw out fanatics. I'd rather 3 Fantatics hit 5 Forsaken than 12 Warriors. If none of those options are available I send them after units it wouldn't be worthwhile sending my Warriors after. Bowmen, Gnoblars, Zombies that sort of thing.
My only advice really is keep the units small. They don't need to be big to do that role and they are expensive, leave the ranked up business to Warriors and Chosen. Five or Six Models should do you.
