Welcome to Librarium Online!
Hey everyone this is my first time on this website. I played a few games of BFG and I am a veteran of 40k (got tau and orks). Me and a friend just started fantasy and I am WOC all the way. I was wondering if it was possible to use a wizard and somehow march him up to the enemy and get a for sure miscast and hope to get the large template? Like a suicide guy?
There's no way to guarantee a miscast. the max number of dice you can throw at a spell is 6 and even with 6 dice i often fail to miscast. You could use pandemonium which will make you miscast on any doubles.... but then you wont benifit from the irresistable force. Besides which the miscast table isn't really that destructive, i've had many wizards miscast without causing too much damage.
Nevertheless having such a wizard in your arsenal could be quite devastating when facing blocks of Dwarfs. I'd recommend looking at the spells of the sorcerer before looking at the miscast options.
The Infernal Puppet on your main caster could be of (some) assistance.

Yes, it is theoretically very possible to make Jihadi Sorcerers, but it takes a bit of work - and even then it can still go 4-Lions on you. Here's how I would do it, with Lore of Kaboom!
Step 1: get yourself a really dumb level 1 sorcerer and give him a power scroll.
Bearing in mind you have already spent 120 points on this explosion, this Mr Bean should pick Lore of Death for the signature spell.
Step 2: get a mastermind sorcerer, one with with puppet and stand back.
Think of him as the guy with the remote.
Step 3: run in close, cast something with six dice.
You would have to roll 1,2,3,4,5,6 for this to fail with odds of about 1/7776. Purple Sun would be a treat if you got it rolling!
Be aware, that like the nude flip-and-dock, this can still go horribly wrong.
SCENARIO 1: You get snipered before you get close. Counter-Terrorists Win!
SCENARIO 2: You roll too high, doing little to no damage [you need a 7 or lower, although 10 is possible with a good puppet roll].
SCENARIO 3: You roll 5-7, up to 10 with puppet and do a strength 10 hit. The range will be very limited, 3-5 enemy models most likely.
SCENARIO 4: You blow yourself up on a 2-4, or with puppet maybe even as high as 7. This is the Rubber-Dingy Rapids mate! A large template that does strength 10 to everyone underneath! You go to heaven and get 72 virgins - problem is, no one said they were young, or even women.
If you have a charmed shield on your Jihadi Sorcerer then you wont take any damage from the hit either.

With a power scroll you can do that. Have an infernal puppet in the army as well to help you get the big blast result on the miscast table. Or you could throw the book of secrets on an exalted Hero and do it, but then you can't afford the power scroll I think. But the book makes you throw 1d6+1 on the miscast table, almost guaranteeing the big blast.

Warhammer 40k: Eldar, Space Marines, Orks
Why would you use book on an exalted? Cheaper to do it on a level 1 sorcerer.
But like you said, then you can't carry a Power Scroll - which is why the build I posted earlier specifically states that the suicider needs it. Unless...well...you put it on a Chaos Lord - expensive! That could work if the Lord is solo charging into a unit, like on a steed with charmed shield.
Taking the Book idea even further: A level 1 sorcerer with Book of Secrets charges out of his unit and rolls 1 die for some expensive spell, followed by Black Tongue from the supporting caster - Kaboom! Even cheaper too at 110 points (160 really).

It is completely not worth the points to do what you want to do. Assuming that nothing goes wrong and you actually make it to your enemy as a lone wizard without getting sniped and you manage to roll the miscast and you get double ones, your wizard is 120+ points. With a properly placed suicidal wizard, you can maybe kill about 70 points worth. Also, spending 120+ points on the very small chance that you might miscast and hurt an enemy unit while killing yourself at the same time just isn't worth it. You could have about 7 warriors for that or half a hellcannon that can hit a large template on the enemy every turn with no risk and fight as a close combat monster. Not to mention that the 120 points are coming out of what you can spend on your characters. And we have expensive characters. It's hard enough to balance it out so that I have a general/killy character, wizard for magic defense, and bsb exalted.
Screw the spray gun. I paint my own models!
/agree with ironmaiden. It might be fun in a game just to make your opponent say "WTF!?", but that's about it.
Fantasy: High Elves 7000pts / Warriors of Chaos 6000pts. 40k: Eldar 5000pts / Chaos Marines 2500pts.
