So i've been playing last night a battle with a friend of mine,1000pts,WoC me and VC him. His rare choice were Cairn wraiths, major spoilers of fun. I mean they have the ethereal special rule which means that in my list only the sorcerer could damage them via magic. I've been wondering how can anyone comfort them.Apart from magic the other solution is beating them in combat results, using a horde of mar,and or flanking them etc.Any other solutions coming in your mind?
You can beat them on Combat res usually. Just Ranks and a standard can whittle their numbers down somewhat. Otherwise Magic/Magic Weapons are your only friend.
Luckily we have some clever things to hand. Chaos Knights come with Magic weapons as Standard so if you have any of those in your lists you're as good as gold. Otherwise just grab a ahero with Magic weapon to do the dirty work.
Fire Magic is quite good as well. It deals high amounts of hits and str4 that should take care of squishy T3 wraiths. Flaming Swords of Rhuin are just horrible no matter what you fight and make your attacks magical.
Exactly correct, Ascendo, the Chaos Knights with their ensorcelled weapons count as a magic attack. Also, any other hero with a magic weapon will be able to hit an ethereal unit/creature.
Also, there may be other ways to give a normal unit magical attacks, but I don't delve into the magic end of WHFB too much.
The best suggestion is magic, second best is Chaos Knights (Wraiths do cause Terror after all...). AFter that its pretty much any hard-core block with a hero equipped with some form of trinket. ALso - is the hellcannon not magical in its attacks? Wraiths are hideously expensive and I would not field them myself against WoC, Wood Elves of High Elves as all three of these armies can pack a significant magical close combat punch

MoK knights are immune to terror BTW.
I know banner of the Eternal Flame gives flaming attacks but I'm not sure if they count as magic too.
Flickering Fire of Tzeentch is always good to use on etheral units since it can do some hideous damage to T3 troops, as for Gateway...
Breath weapons like Stream or Throgg's special ability work nice.
Troll Vomit hurts etheral units and it's funny too.
