I just got back from the Warmasters Challenge and I have to say, the blasted standard on tzeech warriors was hands down the most important thing I have ever brought to the table.
I made countless saves with this bad boy against warmachines, archers and stupid made-up skaven weaponry that I can never imagine not bringing this again. I did a number of test games with a different banner and the warriors never did much, as their numbers would be decimated before they crossed the board.
Just thought I would share that =P
Amen to that. The Blasted Standard is one of the best magic banners in the game; I can't tell you how many times it has pulled my warriors bacon off the fire from enemy war machines. Most of my enemies don't even bother shooting at whatever unit I happen to have it in anymore. But because of that, my other units tend to get shot to pieces. So I am thinking of maybe putting the Blasted Standard on 10 knights to shove in my opponent's face to take the heat off my other units, while still being very resilient.
Knights x 10
Standard and musician
Blasted standard 490
What do you guys think? Jam it down my opponent's throat to force him to deal with them, which draws fire off of the rest of my army, while still being a tough nut to crack. This would definitely be something for 2000 point games and up only, but I think it has merit. Has any one tried anything like this?

Blasted Banner on a group of Tzeentch Knights is very strong, but if you are going to bring a block of 10, then Collar of Khorne is worth getting too. I'm not a big Knights fan, I seem to lose them very fast to magic, but in groups of 10 they are superb - no question.
Blasted Banner is awesome though, most games I bring a unit of warriors with it and put them directly opposite any ranged unit.
Sona si Latine loqueris.
I used to use it on my knights and try that, problem always was that the war machines or guns were just too well defended to get at right away. now with the new steadfast rules it's pretty easy to tarpit that unit.
I think it better to put in warriors still, because i know I can rely on them to smash through the enimy's rank and file. I'm not sure how many warriors 490pts would buy, but I'm sure it would be a devistating unit.
I'm finding that having one solid beast for combat, and building up the other units as either small throw-aways and large+cheap units (35-40 maraders). Gives them the option of using their shooting to punch pillows or punch a wall.
This was a double's tourney tho and I was partnered with Empire. I have yet to try and translate it into a chaos only list.
Yea I just got home from warmasters as well. Played in both the singles and doubles events as warriors (doubled with beasts).
I didn't find too much trouble with shooting over the course of my matches. I would often take a few wounds here and there, but often not enough to lose effectiveness for what I wanted them to do. Rather then going blasted standard I took rapturous on my tzeentch warriors to create a unit that can take it and be less likely to run as I kept the general and bsb in close proximity while setting up flanks (which worked splendidly against lizardmen slaan + temple guard units or skaven blocks).
I think the only time I really regretted not taking blasted standard was against a lizardmen army that were fielding 6 salamanders.... not fun times.
As for warriors vs knights as to who gets it, I would often prefer to give it to the warriors. But I may be biased since I just don't particularly like running a large number of knights. Also, over the course of the game I think that you "save" more points on the warriors as there are more models being protected and their armor save is worse so it can often come down to that ward to keep them alive.
As for the next warmaster I think I need to just go all khorne becuase I had horrendous luck on my panic checks. My large unit of tzeentch shield warriors panicked in 3/8 games I played over the two days..... twice on the first turn which resulted in being panicked off the board. Re-rollable 9 for the lose.
I think Slaneesh would be the way to go for WMC, a clever person could bait yoru frenzied troops away from the objectives.
Not to sound like a rules snob, but aren't WoC immune to panic due to our Will of Chaos special rule?
Nah, the will of the gods only lets you re-roll Panic. If only it was immune to panic!!
As for the banner, I can't say I've ever used it. I've never had reason to with my circle of mates who all seem to have a fetish for close combat armies.
Borac, you lucky, lucky man. I pity the opponent who tries to go toe to toe with Warriors at their own game. My somewhat unhealthy obsession with the blasted standard stems from my most common opponents being a couple shooty high elf armies, and an Orc player who has way too many Doom Divers. I'll take just about anything if it will help my guys get through all that fire to actually punch faces
Well yeah I know lol. It's Orcs, Undead, Daemons, Ogres around me. There used to be a gunline Dwarf army but that hasn't been around for ages. I just blocked his Organ guns Lines of sight with Warhounds but that was back in 7th.
The Blasted Standard IS awesome. a 4+ Ward (with Tz) for the whole unit from shooting attacks? That's just silly. Other armies would give their best core choice for that sort of item. But, I guess we are very spoilt with our army book. The Mark of Tzeentch stacking with loads of other items is just awesome in general.
