i have started running 2 units of marauders. one group of 20 with MOK, flails, standard and musician, they seem to perform just fine but my horde of 30 armed with the same thing struggle with hard units like bret knights. i killed 5 out 9 before they ever got to attack, but then spent 4turns killing off the last of them. So my question is... is it worth it to loose init. 4 and str5 all the time or should i keep the flails?
hopefully by ard boyz i will have 2 40 man hordes.
I've given up on flails myself. Combat just seems to last longer these days with steadfast and the new step-up rules. I've started to run maraders in units so big that attack order doesn't make much difference until round 3 or 4. IF you prefer the GW then give it a shot, but I personally love the HW/Shield with tzeech. 5+5+ keeps them grinding out, and a combat character in there to lay some beat town works great at taking on larger units of core troops.
Yeah, flails have lost a lot of their effectiveness (as well as lances against steadfast enemies, but generally that's not what you're doing with your cavalry... or meant to do >_>).
Great weapons with MoK chews up the foe but you will be taking those casualties. MoT with HW+S is going to be a slower fight but you're going to be coming out with far less losses. Your call, depends on what you've got in your army so far.
If someone helps you, rep them.
In a votewar you don't vote on a single match, you vote on the entire round. Got that?
i think i might have to try MOT and HW/Shield. Im slowly coming around to using MOT (i know its awesome) when i started out i ran a pure MOK army but ive slowly started using other marks. i just finished a game against HE using 40 marauders with MOK and GW and they owned a unit of 20 swordmasters that had wiped out 2 units of warriors. they lost 15 guys but killed all but 3 in return.
I got destroyed in that game by the way. Teclis (or whatever his name is) is ridiculous, irresistible force on doubles and dosen't suffer miscast! and whats worse he took lore of metal so i lost 3 units in 3 turns to him alone.(884pts!) All the dispell dice in the world wont save you against him or any HE mage that takes book of Hoeth.
I prefer Flails as they tend to do much better against Monsters & smaller units.
GW's are good too, but I'm scared of losing MoKf I fail combat resolution, thus I aim to do heavy damage first round and then use the free reform to build a steadfast block - so far it has worked nicely.
Sona si Latine loqueris.
Depends on who you are versing. I prefer Great Weapons, Striking LAst instead bad beacuse they are only In 4 anyway.

I think it all depends on the size of your unit. If you're going for a small unit that doesn't have the numbers to soak up the damage it wil be dealt before it strikes then flails will be you're friend. Small units of 12 or so that some people use for Wizard bunkers etc.
Iif you're going for a big unit, of say 25+, that can soak up the wounds dealt to it by an enemy unit then you're best off going with great weapons.
My 50 Man GW Khorne Marauder Horde (with Wulfrick) ran into a block of 20 Sword Masters of Hoeth recently and it was not pretty.
Besides the ignominy of Wulfrick being slain by the Sword Masters Champion it was one of the most one sided beat downs of my career in 8th.
The 5 wide Sword Masters slaughtered 13 Marauders by themselves, 3 Wounds on Wulfrick, add in the High Elf BSB and you can guess the rest........
But surely you caused some grief in return!!! You'd surely get 18 attacks back?!? 24 if it's a horde!!! That's got to mash some elves in return!!
I'm suprised you lost that Did you challenge the champion on purpose? You know you get to choose right?
I did challenge the champion deliberately, the other option was the Exploding Elf (whose name escapes me) or a tooled up BSB, thought the Champion was the safest option.
I did unleash 24 attacks back, even hitting on 4's and wounding on 2's I only killed 4(ish) when i would of expected around 10 and remaining Steadfast.
Sorry for going a little "off-topic" Never meant to de-rail the thread.
