Welcome to Librarium Online!
Have my first game against Skaven in 8th this coming Sunday and have devised something quite develish to try.
(Although i'm sure it's been used previously.)
It's something which seems relatively easy to "pull off"
By casting "Doom and Darkness" from the Lore of Death, in conjunction with a charge of Chaos Knights that includes a Lord with Diabolic Splendour, whilst ensuring the BSB with the Doom Totem is visable (although this may be overkill ).
Could this be the Hammer unit to crush Steadfast or does the Leadership remain "unmodified"?
Steadfast means takes breaktests at LD value unmodified by combat resolution.
So DnD+Doomtotem does work. Diablolic Splendour won't help you here, maybe helping them failing the Fear test.
But if the Lord is on a normal mount, he is not the source of the fear test (the knights are), so again will not help. He should cause fear himself, again lore of Dearth can help. Or terror banner (tho I might be wrong on this one, so correct me if I am).
I actually have been working on this since a tournament last weekend.
So far what I have come up with is;
-Sorc Lord of Slaanesh on Boobworm with Diabolic Splendour.
-Lvl2 Death sorc with Spell Familliar.
-BSB with Doom Totem, Tzeentch and shield for a 3+/5++ in combat (I say this is still good).
-Multiple hound units and Slaaneshi Horsemen.
The point would be to make use of the Frenzy spell to lure the damn rats out of formation and take some units out of the game for a few turn.
I'm not sure how a warmachine with frenzy would behave, but if it works it's epic.
Hellcannon for the obvious -1ld panic test, combined with DnD/Doomtotem.
Slaaneshi mage moves super fast and causes multiple panic tests.
We play with a rule set that doesn't allow two Hell cannons or two lord level mages. Because if I could I would.
(I don't mind, because that means no dual Hydra/HPA lists.
Don't forget to bring a unit knights with the flaming banner.
I tried it with Frenzied Halberd footmen. But they are to slow, I couldn't dictate with them, so I missed the HPA and got lured by some slaves.
Heavens would be awesome as well, because it has a -1ld signature spell. Sadly it's a Lord level only lore.
But Death has a cause fear/terror spell.
I would run it in conjunction with big blocks of Slaaneshi Marauders (for fluff and non-frenzy). Possibly Warriors, but that would give him things worth shooting at.
DO NOT FORGET THE 3RD EYE OF TZEENTCH VS SKAVEN!!!! also, a scroll.
It is the awesomest ever.
Skitterleap, Death frenzy, worthwhile magic missile.
You know if you wanted to be REALLY evil, and by the fact that you're playing Chaos I assume you are, you can take the Mark of Nurgle on top of the diabolic/doom.
If he fails a Fear test he becomes WS1. Mark of Nurgle is -1WS with, as far as I know it, no "WS1 minimum". This makes him WS0 and thus unable to attack.
To be fair it's my opponents first outing with Skaven in 8th and his list will likely be FAR from optimum. Maybe 1 big bus of Slaves and 1 of Clan Rats.
I'll probably take quite a fluffy list for the game too.
I think i'll unleash this dasterdley plan when he next takes his Teclis/Tyrion led High Elves to the table.
BAH! If he plays elves he deserves everything coming his way.
If I were you, If you end up killing his general/BSB/Mage then I'd make your BSB to be the crucified victim. I did this to my mates Bretonian Damsel. I had her crucified to a great big Chaos star. I modelled her screaming with her eyes cut out and a Chaos star cut into her forehead. 'Alas' she died, rotted away and is now just a crucified skeleton on my Warshrine........
Did I say I hate Elves? I really do............ and Bretonians.
Borak, at first I thought you where wrong, so I looked it up.But indeed you are right!Page 110 – The Mark of Nurgle
Change the second paragraph to “A model with the Mark of
Nurgle is difficult to target. Ranged attacks that target him are
at -1 To Hit. Models that target him in close combat are at -1
I'm sorry I ever doubted you!
I'm actually going to play this army against a VC army on Thursday. On purpose!
I want to see how I fare when I can't make anything panic, but have to rely on buffing my own troops.
/Scurries aways to change all his Marks to Nurgle.
I guess it all comes down to what happens when. Or instances Magic players would call it I think.
Fear takes you down to 1, so before attacking they are WS1. Once they attack, they get an additional -1 WS and loose the ability to attack. (If they are still alive at this point!)
Most epic indeed.
are we sure WS 0 = inability to attack? it makes sense but seems more of an assumed rule than a stated one. I looked briefly in the book and the closest thing I saw was that "6's always hit and 1's always miss". I didn't look too hard tho, I'm getting tired of rifling thru the thing =P
On the main topic of the thread, I've tried the D&D combo with alot of things and gotta say that it is a flop. With the random dice of the magic phase and how easy some armies have it to shut it down there is no way to garuntee you will get it off when you want too. The mage Lord (only sure way to get the spell) is almost 300pts, the banner is another 75, splendor i have no idea and a hellcannon is 200pts. Point is there is alot of points invested into a "maybe" situation. it's the best when you land it but if you want to win you have to play the odds and aim for the most reliable strat you can muster.
I think I might actually forgo the DnD mage in favor of a shadows one, at least at lower points.
Because shadow has some nice things in conjunction with Slaanesh. -D3 T and forced T tests?
Plus the Slaanesh mage has forced panic tests, better than hoping for a hit with a Hellcannon. Preferably both
hmm, yeah page 4 says that ws0 = unable to defend itself and all attacks hit automatically. Makes sense that if you can't stop an attack you can't give one back. That and the chart makes it pretty convincing.
