Welcome to Librarium Online!
ok the rules for this states that magical weapons have no affect on this guy and that you treat all attacks as mundane attacks
does this mean that demons cant hurt this guy as tecnically they dont have any regular attacks?
Their attacks might count as magical, but they don't have magic weapons, so they can still hit you.
On the other hand, enscorcelled weapons the Chaos Knights wield, are affected I would say.
The magic weapons loose all magical properties, and thus count as the mundane version.
In the knights case, normal handweapons.
A magical spear turns into a normal spear etc.
see this is what i was thinking is that all attacks are treated as mundane
so bloodletters for example, they have magical weapons but no mundane weapon so can they hurt him
on the other hand maximus prime might be right in saying that they have magical attacks but not weapons and so can hurt him, however i wld argue that you need a weapon to hurt him and as your weapon has no affect you cant
but i really have no idea, just though i wld ask
Check page 88 of the rule book dude. Every model is considered to be armed with a hand weapon as well as what ever equipment they already have. So even if the blood letters swords 'disapeared' they'd still be considered to have a weapon and therefore able to attack.
The Rune Shield doesn't get rid of a weapon, it just makes magical weapons loose their abilities and turn then into 'mundane' weapons. So, against Blood letters, their swords would loose their magic weapon do hicky wot nots and revert to being 'swords'
Does anyone still use the runeshield? I never really rated it that highly, as there are not many hand to hand weapons out there that are a serious threat to a well tooled up chaos character (such as a 1+/3+ tzeentch lord with a powerful weapon of his own). It seemed that the 50 points could be better spent on other things.
It is great against The Empire. Making a RuneFang into a regular sword is priceless....
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
Runeshield is a safe choice for a lord if you are going up against armies with other potentially deadly lords, or armies who will compensate their terrible stats with powerful items. However it is very hard to tell which armise these will be. Blade of realities is just outright gross but how often will a lizzardman player leave a slann on the shelf? A HE Player friend of mine loves to put the +3 str sword on a lord. . . . when he doesn't want to use an archmage to dominate magic.
Empire runefangs are good to counter, unless the empire player puts no stock in his characters and leaves them out of combat at all costs.
It's a great item, but at 50pts a strong gamble. It has the potential to ruin someone's day, but by the time you figure out who that someone is it could already be too late.
Aye, talisman said it all really. You have to take a gamble that your opponent takes a character that can give your Lord a challenge in a fight. That basically mean it's Ogres, Black Orcs, Combat Vampires, Doom Bulls, Scar Vets. The other armies are kind of 'eh'.
In my experience these sort of characters are given items to keep them alive. They don't need killy weapons as they have the right stats high enough already. That means they'll be packing 2 hand weapons or a great weapon, making the Rune shield useless. My Chaos Lords only ever pack a Great weapon or Halberd.
