I have a local tournament coming up on Saturday, and I was wondering if I should go with one big block of warriors or two smaller ones? They'd have halberds and MoT. I have 24 Warrior models, so its either one big block of 20-24 or two blocks of 10-12
Personally, Im a big fan of one big unbeatable block of Warriors, but people might say that it depends on who you're facing and what else you've got in your army.
Big blocks of warriors are going to be a great big points sink and your opponent knows that if he kills that units you'll have an uphill struggle to win. So if you go down that route you'll need to kit them out to survive the punishment they'll get. Grab protection from shooting and protection from magic.
As to what's better, well that depends on who you ask and what else you have in your army. I'm a Chap who loves lots of small Warrior units because I like the tactical flexibility it brings, although it has its weaknesses I'm aware of those and build my list to compensate for it.
Some people who like big chompy units of warriors and little else will find themselves out manauvered and flanked. They'll need to compensate their list to compensate for those weaknessess as well.
Without knowing what's in your list there's not much we can truthfully advise.
For smaller tournaments (2250 and under) I tend to put my eggs in one basket. 22 warriors, BSB, Sorcereor all in one deathstar. 6x4. It basically tells your opponent "You want to win ? You'll have to Kill ALL OF THIS"
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
As Borak said, it all depends on what the rest of your list looks like.
I think 14 is a bit small for Warriors (I once tried that and Dreaded 13th ate all my units).
I'm a big fan of 18 (6x3) for maximum carnage. I like carnage.
One unit of 20 (5x4) is also nice, use the left over Warriors as Forsaken if your lacking units to fill the list.
What did you have in mind with the rest of the list?
Alright well the rest of my list looks kinda like this, though it isnt finished:
Level 4 Sorcerer lord (probably going Shadow)
BSB with MoT (going in the warrior unit)
Two units of 25 marauders with MoK and great weapons
5 knights of nurgle (im thinking about trying the festering shroud)
and two warshrines, because everytime i use them, they ALWAYS turn out great
I know for sure that two of my opponents are playing High Elves and Empire. There might be a skaven player, maybe another chaos player, hopefully a friend comes with his lizardmenm I'm really not sure except for the first two
