ive been debating it for a while now, two great lores, just not sure which one to bunker down with on my DP. I love slaanesh, only down side is that your enemies army needs to not be ITP, or you lose alot of spell ability. Shadow is great for all sorts of debuffs and pit of shades, but not so much in the direct damage area.
That being said right, i run a lvl2 also with him that has 3rd eye and MoT.
So its either the Daemon formerly known as prince
Prince Erebus- lord of Shadow and darkness.
I just started using Heavens, and I am surprised by how useful it is. Give it a shot, you might like it.
5000 pts of WoC, 5000 pts of Orcs and now 3000 pts of Ogres...What was I thinking ????
yea heavens is really awesome to!
but why not a tzeentch DP for the extra WS
and slaanesh on your lvl 2...
if you would take slaanesh
if you go for shadow turn it back around
If you're using a Daemon Prince as your primary caster, I pity your army. The fact that we can add levels to them is ridiculous- you can get completely separate L2 caster for 5pts more than the upgrade to make a L2 DP.
I've always gone with MoT, and then given him L1 (essentially a 40pt Flickering Fires pl3 bound item) and then given him equipment to up his survivability, like Fury of the Blood God and then gone for unit/character killer abilities like Stream of Corruption.
Shadows isn't too great on the Daemon Prince. The Lore Attribute drops off (although I've had fun with a pair of them in a large game...) because you don't have another Monstrous type character to swap places with. Furthermore, the hexes on that lore aren't going to help the DP much, considering he already hits most people on 2's and is so much faster than everyone else on the table. Better to keep a Sorc on foot with shadows, to toss spells around to his allies (MindRazor) and debuff nearby foes before swapping out to bring up the big guns in the form of an Exalted or Lord.
The only reason to take a L4 DP is if you can't afford to take a MoT DP along with a L4 Sorc Lord, and/or need access to Heavens. I'd go as far as to argue that the only reason to take a DP at all is if you can't afford a Sorc Lord and Lord of Chaos in the same army and need to consolidate that into a single model.
You'd never run any DP into close quarters? Or just my build?
My usual loadout for a Dragon Prince is:
MoT, L1, Fury of the Blood God, Stream of Corruption, Word of Agony
I use him to hunt down small regiments and a character. I went up against a High Elf Swordmaster deathstar once, with Teclis and a BSB in it. Here's how it went down:
Before ASF- Word of Agony for D6S4 hits on Teclis. Bye bye Teclis before he can run to the back.
I issue a challenge, he refuses, I send his unit champion to the back.
BSB swings, can't get through the 5's to wound with a 4+ ward
SM swing, 4's to hit, no reroll (I7 baby), 4's to wound, 4+ ward - 2 wounds
I drop 5 S5 attacks on his BSB - bye bye BSB
I drop D6 S5 Thunderstomps on his unit
I Stream for 2D6 hits, wound on 4's with SMs saving on 6's (armor piercing)
I win the combat and break their steadfast, the 4 remaining elves take off, only to be run down by my flying evilness!
Basically, he's great at utterly annihilating one unit and/or character, and then he just flies around and hunts down small stuff or flanks enemy regiments that are already dealing with Warriors. Since you no longer have to make your highest LD character your general, my army was actually being led by a L2 Sorcerer with Shadows, who was swapping spaces with my BSB as needed.
If you want a support caster, you could always go with an actual L4 Sorc Lord, toting some serious firepower in the spell department. A generic Daemonic Mount actually counts as a Monstrous Beast, which is the same as a Disc. If you're missing an opportunity to fly around the battle, you can always just Shadow-swap with a character who's already flown into position.
its not that i wouldnt, its just my play style. Ive actually ran lvl 4 lords before and didnt really care for them. i admit i run an unorthadox list, but its also been getting me to 1st 2nd or 3rd in our local tourneys. Ill start another thread and discusion over this topic, i really am just trying to debate what lore combo to take. so far ive been placing first with Shadow DP + MoT Lvl2 w/3rd eye. Having 3 hellcannons and a doom totem, i really would like a flying slannesh terror bomb. I also like being able to control people with tittilating delusions.
hahaha loool 3 hellcannon
i was thinking 2 was getting to much
but then again in tourneys, where 2 hydra's or more are common... why not
yea i run 3 Hellcannons a BSB ww/doom totem, and would like to throw in a hellshriek/splendor combo for lots of luv. so far great results. My fav was a Teclis w/ the antimagic banner, 50 PG and 6 nobles. He parked them near a table edge and i forced a panic test with the hell cannon at a -2 (doom totem), right off the board. Lolz.
