I recently restarted playing tournaments with a disk list.
The problem is that every skaven player I encounterd used the storm banner wich made my disks rather useles from the moment the banner is used.
Now my question is, is it worth to swap the disks for an other mount for this reason? (e.g. same counts for a dwarven anvil)
Welcome to the forums!
Well, my most common opponent is Lizardmen, and they have a lot of Lore of Heavens, so I know where you're coming from. I was never really a fan of Disks in the first place, because it feels too much like sticking my characters out there for target-practice.
I'd say that dropping them depends on what other units you have in your army. If they're on horseback and alone, it might be a little better than the disks against Skaven/Dwarfs/Lizards, but it's a liability against everyone else, and they probably won't be able to get in and do the warmachine hunting that you've been using them for. If you've got a hefty infantry core, you could probably drop those discs and a few Warriors and hide yourself in some units and save a ton of points.
How's your disk army doing against other armies? I used to run an army with lots of fliers (Disks, Daemon Prince, etc) and couldn't get it to work. I found that I was better off taking cavalry, or just tanking forward with my infantry.
You could always go with the mighty Slanesshi Boobworm. A non-flying natural movement of 10. Same as a flyer. You just can't go over people.
Be thankful if they are using the storm banner - it affects shooting as well, so they are not as able to lash you with all their horrible weaponry. It is possible to get him into combat sometime anyway - just focus all your units towards the one with his storm banner, kill the BSB and then he is back in business.
Plus, with the new charge rules he still can make a 9 inch charge most of the time, so even if it takes a while you should be able to get him into combat.
you don't *need* a disc, I find it more suitable for hero's/lords rather than casters.
Just drop it, bet you won't even miss it.
you mean the scarecrow banner?
Well against other armies my disk's are a god sent I use a stubborn 3+ward lord which lokchs down my opponent main unit wich leave's the rest of my army to clean up everithing else. But I gues if I swap it for a horse it will do the same since it only has to go straight ahead to my opponent main bunker.
My other disk is my bsb having a flying bsb makes shure his gets where he had to be and with a 3+ ward he doesn't get killed that easily, I'm not sure to take him from his disk, maybe just ajust his position when playing skaven.
Another thing to bear in mind is that the storm banner is one use only, and once it runs out the disc rider is back in action.
I still maintain that, with the nasty missile weaponry available to the skaven army, his activating the storm banner is far more beneficial to a chaos army as it keeps them safe from his shooting.
Doesn't the banner not work on the Skaven? Or is that only the spell with effectively the same effect?

Well, I'd assumed that Skaven lists using the stormbanner were combat-orientated... thus why they'd take it. Maximise strengths, reduce weaknesse you know?
Far as discs go, well, it's unlucky, but you have to ride it out and wait for it to pass. You could try targetting that uni if you wanted to though...
If someone helps you, rep them.
