Hey guys, it's my birthday next week and I'm having a 4v4 2500pt SoM Megabattle with 6 of my friends. With the odd # of people I will be fielding 2 WoC armies. Each army is to be self contained. the teams are 2x woc, skaven, dwarves vs woc dwarves lizardmen empire.
Needless to say it is going to be an epic showdown, where anything is possible and nothing goes according to plan. with such as the case I'm brainstorming some of the craziest, nastiest, most reslient stuff that's possible.
One thing that i am certain to bring is Kholek Suneater and Throgg on one list, and this windcatcher prism looks likeit would be alot of fun aswell.
What about you, what sort of toys would you play with?
Sounds like it will be an amazing game. In a game like that I'd love to do some of those amazingly big units like they used in the siege in the rule book. Have a unit of Marauders worth 1000pts or 50 Chaos warriors in one unit. Or that whaky unit of 6 Exalteds on Discs.
I haven't played a game that big since we did a 20,000pt siege game. Ah, it brings a tear to my eye the blood letting that was done. Ever tried to take a wall from Ogres? Khorne was most pleased at the resulting bloodshed. 5 Chaos Giants charging a Fortress wall and ripping it down........ allowing hordes of frothing Khorne warriors into the City to do battle with a 50 strong unit of Iron Brakers.
I played a huge, 2v2 game with about 6k of Vampires against 9k of Empire and Brets, when my basement was finished. It was a HUGE table, and pretty awe-inspiring. That, and other "real time" campaigns, where you get to move extremely far during each turn, but you play in an empty two-car garage and stick all sorts of terrain-based objectives on the ground.
For your game, I think I'd just take my usual mix of SoM gear. Kholek is a must, as are the Black Tongue on a model with enough wounds to make it valid, a 3rd Eye somewhere, and the Puppet. You just have to. If you build 2, self contained list, I'd have each list carry these three items. Spend the majority of your SoM points on either Pact-Daemons, and Truthsayers (Light/Life on Warriors is disgusting). Kholek is about all the "Monster" you're going to need, and if you could somehow get him into each list, it would be that much more entertaining. I'm telling you, giving him ASF and an Ini-boost in my first game saw him smashing a Bone Giant in a single round of combat.
Warriors can pretty much deal with any kind of monster your opponent throws at them, they might take some casualties (hence Lore of Life) but it's not like we need to send in a monster to deal with another monster. We can spend those points on getting things like Pink Horrors to hold onto Fulcrums, or Truthsayers.
Another good trick is to remember that if you can make a Chaos Lord into a "Caster", you probably should. The easiest is to Book him, and then simply not cast with him. For 25pts, making something as downright lethal as a Chaos Lord able to stand on a Fulcrum, takes everything we love about Chaos in SoM (armored casters with more than 2 attacks and better than WS3) and makes it that much more terrifying.
i've seen you say it a couple of times now
if you really want light, make a pact with daemons, take that loremaster gift and take light
and that lord on a fulcrum is great idd...
but i noticed that my casters on fulcrums die mostly of spells or shooting then from a cc fight!
then it seems a wast of points to put a lord on it
heavens should be good to! with all those monsters flying around, those extra hits can make a difference
seems like a fun battle i want to play someday to
I always felt like the pacts were a waste of time. They look good on paper but are statistically likely to have ended (and hence the units disappear) before the end of the battle. Anyone have any experience with this?
I've always wanted to take a chaos war mammoth (that much crushy, crushy goodness will mulch even giants into Khorne flakes ). As said, truthsayers, puppets and black tongues are awesome. As are unitsof exalteds on juggernauts. And if you want lore of light, take an emperor dragon - they can be wizards

Thanks guys, keep the ideas comming! There are some pretty good ideas here and they've planted a few more of my own.
25% spawn baby! A ton of trolls led by Throgg, and definitely kholek the sun eater. Finish it off with a giant block of 200 marauders!
