Going to be putting together a 2k point list sometime soon and was thinking for Rare choices taking a Hellcannon and then either Scyla, Giant, or Shaggoth.
Looking for people's opinions on which of the melee Rare choices they liked best for whatever reason (even if it's just because they look awesome on the front line against whatever the enemy throws at you )
Hell cannon check it out
Monster, Thunder stomp, TO 6 forget shooting
Giant. The model is fantastic and they make me laugh.
Shaggoth and cannon. Cannon for resiliency shaggoth for combat power. Though giants are awesome vs other monsters

Shaggies with AddHW are pretty beast, no lie. However, they're naked and make a nice squishy target for magic and shooting, so they rarely to get to combat, and even then, the return blows usually tear them apart.
The HellCannon however... this is nice. The crew are basically a 5+ wardsave you can pass 3 times before losing it, the thing has a 4+ armor save, T6, plenty of attacks, a Thunderstomp, and best of all - it's Unbreakable. This means that it can serve double-duty, charging in and smashing up enemy knights or big baddies, or it can act as an awesome tarpit against Low-Toughness foes. I've had this thing hold up a unit 150 Skaven Slaves ones, just by sitting in front of them for 5 turns and shrugging off all the hits and being Unbreakable when I lost. I even won combat a few rounds thanks to the fact that they poor slaves couldn't make a scratch on my monster, and I was thrashing them with 5+D6 attacks each round.
I have to agree with the general consensus, the hellcannon is a fantastic rare combat unit, one of the best we have for sure. I actually don't mind the warshrine as a rare combat choice, it's buffing potential is obviously nice, but I've put it in front of a few different unit of knights, and even a hydra and had it do really well, with T6 and a 4+ 3++(with MoT) it's very hard to kill.
my personal top 4
2) Warshrine (can be game breaking making that unit of 50 marauders T4)
3) Scyla (coz normal spawns are too damn slow)
4) Giant with MoS (awesome against other monsters!)

Now now lads. This is a forum about grown men playing with toy soldiers. Lets be adults please.
In an all-comers list, 2x Hellcannon is your most sensable choice for reasons listed above. I would move with 1 and shoot with the other, and on the next turn swich.
Giants are good vs monsters, but get butt-plugged by any form of shooting.
Shaggoths are my personal fave, but again you have to be picky with your targets. i use em with a G weapon and send em after low str troops. Best work i've done with one is to splatter a big unit of iron breakers over 3 turns.
I really like Scylla. While he's not as tough (only being T5 and 4W) or as stompy as the other Rare Choices his MR3 and ability to challenge is great for hunting down enemy wizards. Unbreakable is awesome, he's fast and REALLY cheap. I think he's a great little chap but that's my personal jaded opinion.
As for the 'other' choices they're all good at different things. The Giant is great for splatting other monsters but has no save so tends to die fairly fast against anything else. The Shaggoth and Hell cannon are more all rounders and can go toe to toe with Infantry and Monsters. All Round choice? go with the Hell Cannon as his shooting attack and combat ability will give you more tactical options.
I love Scyla
I killed a HPA with him in 1 round of combat, it wiffed, scylaa got 2 wounds in, it failed its LDR check, was out of range of the BSB by 2", he fled 3d6, scyla pursued 3d6 and BAM one dead HPA thank you mam!
His 6+ WS and MR is really good, with T5 he actually takes quite a pounding before going down, and at 105pts they can waste as many shots as they want on him and i wont care too much.
