Welcome to Librarium Online!
In my 2.4K list I use two units of fast cav buikd as below.
Now I'm entering the throne of Skulls wich is 2K wich means cutting in points. I've got the biggest part down but nit these guys. Just because I love them.
Can somewone give me advise on these units in 2K battle's. (e.a. I'd like to keep at least one unit of Fast Cav due to the Helpiit problem).
5 Merauder Horsemen Mark of Slaanesh Flails Throwing Axes Light Armour Muscician
I don't necessarily have a lot to contribute, but I have been trying to wrap my head around fast cav myself and what role they might play in my army. How exactly do you use them? And do the Throwing Axes ever actually see any use?
Well mostly they clean up warmashine's and abuse the 1" rule vs monsters ans hordes
I should probably know this, but: 1" Rule?
I have used at least one unit of nurgle marauder horsemen in every 2k game so far as skirmisher cav with throwing axes.....they act as exceptional skirmishers, can pull opponents all over the place and block free movement, can pick off lone casters etc, handy at dealing with artillery. As long as you use them intelligently, if you are a cleft and just charge them in at the nearest toughest unit expect of loose them.
Personally never bother with flails, with only 5 in the unit won't bring enough hits to the party to do enough damage to make a difference, although has always struck me as an absolute waste charging light cav ito something that is scary enough to require s5 to kill
Go one or the other fast skirmisher cav or fast melee cav, never liked multi tasking, have a unit perform a specific duty, if it can do other things half decently at a stretch then bonus but pumping points into a unit to make them a swiss army knife is in my mind silly.
I have played some people that become so fixated by the couple of units of marauder horsemen skirmishing and their inability to kill them they totally forget about the real gems slowly trudging over the battlefield to slip them a long hard one.
If you like them then use them, and arse to what everyone else thinks. Your tactics...man up and make the decision yourself
I still honestly think these guys serve no real purpose in our army. Not to say fast cav is pointless in general, just in our list. What purpose do you use them for? Speed bumping is unnecessary, we want combat, and if we ever need a speed bump for whatever reason, we have dogs. Dogs can also warmachine hunt. You pay a massive premium for a few Str5 attacks that most monsters will laugh at, terrible ranged, and ITP.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see how they do anything all that better than dogs. You ask in the OP how we would use them in a 2k list... I guess my two cents is that I wouldn't. Trim the fat.
Fear me, mortals, for I am The Anointed, The Favored Son of Chaos, The Scourge of the World. The armies of the Gods rally behind me, and it is by My Will and by My Sword that your weakling nations shall fall. - Archaon, The Everchosen, Lord of the End Times
I'd just drop them in 2k. Horsemen are just expensive dogs with options to specialize in a paticular form of harrassment better. @ 2k, when points are tight for many things I would just save the 50ish points per unit and go with dogs. As far as I am concerned, horsemen are just throw-away units, don't want to be throwing away more points than nessisary.
