Welcome to Librarium Online!
Today my suspisions of the new ogre book were confirmed. Chaos sorcerrers are no longer the only mages that can ware magic armour.
Do Ogres get Infernal Puppet? Can they fly for 20 points? Do they have a model that can buff an entire unit and not be dispelled?
Cheer up, the average Ogre player still trembles like a fat man in front of a Treadmaster-2000 when WoC appears on the field.
“If you’re in the penalty area and don’t know what to do with the ball, put it in the net and we’ll discuss the options later.” – Bob Paisley
...And we Vampires have also always been able to wear armour and still cast spells too! (and I daresay a kitted out Vampire Lord is a wee bit killier than any silly ogre!)
I wouldn't be trembling all that much if I was an Ogre player facing off vs. WoC any more. A Horde of Ogres is one of the few things that gives Warriors pause, and now they can afford the necessary amount of chaff and supporting units to make sure that Horde gets into a meaningful fight (not to mention the fact that Mournfang Cavalry wreck Marauders so hard it's not funny). They're no longer an easy matchup for WoC - I call it about even.

That's not the thing I'd be afraid of, though, because that guy only shows up at 3,000+ points. What I'm wary of is 18 Ironguts swinging at S6, Impact Hits at S6, Stomps at S4, and the possibility of T5 and Regeneration on that same unit. I'm also not crazy about staring down the barrel at 4D3 S5 Impact Hits followed by 12 attacks at WS3 S4 and 16 attacks at WS3 S5, especially when the possibility of +1S exists (as does a banner that has a S3 Breath Weapon that inflicts ASL for a turn, and would allow them to re-roll 1's to hit, to wound, and on armor saves on the turn they charge) and the models that put out that barrage have M8 and a 2+ armor save. Last but not least, Cannons on a T6 Chariot that can move and shot, have S10 (!) grapeshot and re-roll bounce distance (aka don't miss) are also quite formidable. The Ogres are for real, gentlemen.

While the ogres are more threatening than they used to be, I still find them to be mediocre next to armies like lizardmen, skaven, HE, and even DE.
As long as I have my shadow magic, infernal puppet, and a few decent blocks of combat unit's, I can generally stomp and ogre player.
Even those big unit's of irongut's can't ignore debuff's, and I usually have trolls to deal with mournfang.
Maybe it's just me though...
Ever heard of the Runemaw? Most of those debuffs will bounce right off that unit of 'guts. Mindrazor and Purple Sun are the only spells I'd put money on to be effective against the Gutstar. Trolls are a nice counter to Mournfangs, though, I'll give you that one (though chances are the 'fangs can avoid them). I agree that Ogres aren't a world-beating army, but given where they once were, this is a significant upgrade and they can give us a bit of a hard time.
However, look at what you're comparing them against - DE and Lizards are arguably the best two armies in the game right now (with Skaven and Daemons making an argument, but I don't think either of them dominate like DE and Lizzies do), and HE match up surprisingly well against us in CC thanks to their excellent elite infantry choices (and they have the Eagles, which are also great).

I fought that exact unit of 18 Ironguts and some general. He charged my horde of warriors. I wiped the floor with him. It was barely a contest. Admittedly, there was no regen save. But my halberd warriors never lost a round of combat.
