I need to get a couple of Hellcannons for my army list but I don't like the current models. I think they're fugly and I don't like working with metal where I can avoid it.
I was considering maybe using something from Forgeworld as a counts-as Hellcannon. I was wondering what you guys would think of using one of these - or possibly using two different models to represent two different Hellcannons.
Does anyone have any opinions about any of these models being used as a Hellcannon?
I'd say Magma is the closest one to original Hellcannon. May be rocket too, but it looks less like a cannon. Iron Daemon is too big, and Skullcracker is both too big and not a cannon.
But to be honest - you will have as many troubles with FW resin as you would have with metal, I have 2 original Hellcannons and one CSM Hell Talon, which is only 4 big details and it was a pain to bend them straight and put them together. So I'd suggest you to do kitbashing conversion, like taking one juggernaut and one Ogre's Ironblaster, and add some imagination. It will not be much more expensive.
I kinda want to use one of the Forgeworld models, I think, but I can definitely see using the Juggernaut and the Ironblaster working for someone who wants to do the conversion. Nice idea.
I agree that the Magma Cannon is probably the best model. I was thinking about replacing the end of the barrel with some sort of daemon's head, or possibly something Tyranid. The Death Shrieker Rocket would be my second choice, too. Would you be unhappy playing against an opponent who used one of each in their army? I mean, playing Warriors of Chaos, any big artillery piece has to be a Hellcannon, right?
I got my friend the magma cannon for christmas for the same reason, I think it looks the most like it and has a simpler convertion options to make it look closer to the real thing.
THe iron deamon tho looks the meanest and if someone had the creativity and the skills/materials for a more serious conversion piece I think that would be the best to start with.
I like the Iron daemon myself, the wheel designs look amazing, and with some green stuff you can model up the barrels to look more like the actual hellcannon model barrel.
It would definitely be my pick, and in fact It makes me want to purchase one and model it myself!!!
Why not run it as Iron Daemon itself? There are rules in PDF, and I think for friendly games it would be OK, why not?
Because my list calls for two Hellcannons.
I built my Cannon out of an Ork Deff Dread, some cannon barrels from the Battle Wagon, and the head of a Jugger. I basically just strapped the cannons to the back of the Dread and put the Jugger head jutting out of the chest. I have never had someone complain, and even gotten several compliments. For my next one, I think I'm going to put the Dread onto it's belly, put the Jugger head jutting out of what was the top (and is now the front), and use Carnifex Scything Talons as the limbs
