Welcome to Librarium Online!
hi all, newbie to here and WoC
thought i would say hi, and also after some advice on my army..... i have now got the battalion box set, 1 extra box of warriors, and 2x boxes of marauder horsemen...
my question is how to build an army from here......
so far i have ranked my warriors into a unit of 24, but unsure wether to go a/hw or shields.... my marauders are assembled as hw/s and want at least 40-50 of them....... so do i split my warriors and go for 2 x 18 or 1 x 24 and only have 2 units of foot troops?
any advice on how to move my army on from here
There is one way to run marauders generally... Mark of Khorne and great weapons, in large blocks. Leads to a steadfast unit that dishes out very cheap Str 5 pain.
There are generally 2 ways to run warriors... Mark of Khorne halberds or Mark of Tzeentch shields. The halberdiers will get 3 Str 5 attacks each, while the sword and boarders will have a 3+/5+ parry in combat.
Given your models, run 2x18 warriors (one of each of the above units) and a big block of marauders. Always run your units 6 wide to start, they can reform later if need be.

Actually 18 marauders with MoK/Flails and musician/standard is a very viable unit and great value for just 132 points.

Brock has offered sound advice. I'd like to expand upon it by letting you know that Lances are by and large a terrible upgrade for the Chaos Knights you get in the Battalion Box, and thus you shouldn't use them. Another thing to point out is that Dogs are at their best in cheap squads of 5.
Welcome to LO and to WoC the mightiest army of all!
The batallion box is a great way to start out, you get a basic number of troops, and could probably pull off a 2000 point list with what you have now.
Keep in mind that magic is a very important phase in the game, especially for us since we don't have shooting, magic fills an important role. I would suggest getting a lvl 4 sorcerer lord to go along with what you have now and if possible a battle standard bearer(BS in the form of an exalted hero.
Now onto the troops. To be honest 3 units of foot soldiers is a great number to have, I don't really like to go above 3 even at higher level points(3000+). You have a good amount of mobility on the table, and you won't be too cramped for space with just three.
2x 18 warriors is the norm, one with halberds and MoK and the other with shields/hand weapons and MoT. With this you have two solid blocks of combat troops. One with superior sustainability that still have the ability to dish out damage, and the other a potent hard hitting hammer that will slaughter most other combat units.
If your going to be running marauder horsemen, use them in two groups of 5 to harass your opponent, cover flanks, and hunt warmachines. They aren't really good in straight up combat, so use there speed and maneuverability to run around damaging what you can.
Best of luck!
cheers guys, what i was thinking now then is one of 2 things...
1... complete tzentch army, does this work, will it hit hard, will it take hits well, obv magic is a given there,
2... mix up the marks, 2 x 18 units of warriors, 1 with MoT hw/s and 1 with MoK a/hw, (basic, 36 attacks?? @s4, without any characters), and wither 40-50 block of MoC they r now assembled with hw/s but could "say" they have gw....that could then act as a tarpit/ hard hitting unit ?!(MoK, 20 attacks??), 5 deep.. my knights r made up with end weapons ne ways....
what about my lord?
by the way rothgar r u also on CHotEC??
1: Sure it works. I run a Tzeentch army Tzeentch magic is pretty good. It's a little unsubtle but that's ok for a newer gamer as it lets you get used to the Magic phase. As for the units, run a Tzeentch unit of chosen with halberds and the banner of rage (Frenzy) so they're still killy whilst also being Tzeentch! The other units of warriors (18 strong) are Shield and hand weapon chaps.
2: Generally you're better off with Halberds over additional hand weapons. Although you'll need to convert them or buy them from GW.
whats the benefits between a/hw and halberds? tbh i don't fancy converting them or spending more money than needed in GW if i aint got too lol
its not in the WoC book.......
must say I'm leaning towards a full MoT army, cause i can get frenzy by banner of rage.... i get tough troops from the extra ward save.... MoN isn't great unless pop ws is 3s... and neva liked slanneshh and i can still get extra attacks from a unit with a/hw aswell.
